The Customer Channels Group is a several billion-dollar global business which markets and sells a vast portfolio of laboratory and safety-related products and services to its key customer base around the world that includes Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Academic, Industrial, and Government organizations. As a provider of a broad portfolio of scientific products and services, it transacts with and represents the product lines of thousands of industry-leading suppliers/manufacturers in the laboratory, production environment, and clean-room space.
The Director of Continuous Improvement will be part of a global team designed to facilitate the implementation of the PPI Business System within and across functional groups in the Customer Channels Group. This position is a global role, and partner with functional and regional leaders to drive continuous improvements in day-to-day business processes through KPI Leadership and project execution. This will include aligning Goal Trees to KPI Bowlers, establishing and driving Tiered Daily Management, Performance Management. The Director, PPI Business System will also utilize standard Parent/Project A3 templates and other project and program management tools to drive progress against targets.
As part of the PPI Business System discipline, the individual will facilitate a wide range of continuous improvement tools and methodologies, including, but not limited to, standard work, PDSA/PDCA, 5Whys, Value Stream Mapping, RCCMs, error-proofing, and DMAIC or 8-step PPI problem solving. Successful execution will require partnership and the ability to drive results and engagement across the entire organization – on a global and matrixed organizational platform. Focus will be on delivering sustainable results to enable profitable growth, intensifying the customer experience, and increasing employee engagement to delivery sustainable results.
This role requires up to 50% travel predominantly in North America but could include overseas travel; when not traveling, will be based at Pittsburg, PA.
Identify and the realization of key opportunities primarily at strategic sites and within our SG&A functions. Ideal methodologies would emulate core continuous improvement tools such as Strategy Deployment, Lean Leadership, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flow, 5S + Visual Management, and applying lean to Commercial, Supply Chain.
Challenge organizational leaders to create an action-biased culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve their KPI's, including growth, productivity, asset utilization, inventory, and customer allegiance.
Work with the leadership team to create and communicate PPI Business System strategy, aligned with the Thermo Fisher's Mission and Vision.
Identify best practices within the company, and outside of Thermo Fisher, and serve as a conduit for sharing.
A lean leader with 10+ years, experience driving a lean business system within an SG&A based business. Demonstrating a track record of attaining results through training, coaching and implementing successful TPS-based Lean business system with value-stream mapping, through to kaizen.
Extensive formal lean training, and comprehensive knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement methodologies and tools
Broad knowledge of multi-functional, multi-site, global organizational processes and financial business methods. Passion for driving improvement and leading change in a complex, matrix, global environment.
Financial literacy sufficient to understand Financial Statements and Budgets
Great communicator at all levels of the organization, including accomplished written, oral and presentational skills
Execute programs and/or projects at the appropriate levels using project tools such as Parent A3s, Project A3s, implementation plans, RCCMs, KPI bowlers.
Lead/work with functional teams to streamline processes to improve the customer experience, enable profitable growth and become more efficient.
Provide support to develop project management expertise and capability within the organization as appropriate.
Bachelor's degree within a recognised and relevant discipline. Masters level of learning preferred
Travel 50%, domestically and internationally
5+ years of demonstrable leadership experience and a ‘hands-on' track record of implementing successful programs/projects in one or more of the following areas:
Supplier Management, Strategic Sourcing, Contract Management, Product Life Cycle Management, Regulatory Compliance and Quality, Customer Service.
Fluency in English, other language knowledge desirable in working with global team and organization.
