Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) – Trauma/Critical Care

Area: 374581, APN BILLING
Shift: Full-Time (1.0 FTE) / 12-hour shifts

As an Advanced Practice Provider in a Level I Trauma Center, your role is vital. Trauma care will require the involvement of the right people (including those who perform functions outside of the Emergency Department), new and revised policies and protocols, programs that will be new to UCMC, a heightened level of teamwork, and new and refined systems of care. The care of trauma patients spans all services of the hospital. Our vision for the UCM trauma center is to provide our communities, patients and their families with high-quality, high-touch trauma care through clinical excellence and integrated recovery and outreach programs, while enlarging the reservoir of knowledge through medical education, research, and community collaboration.

Nurse Practitioner Job Summary:

The Trauma Nurse Practitioner is an advance practice nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The ARNP manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments. The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research.

Trauma Nurse Practitioner Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of a formal nurse practitioner program
  • Completion of AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course
  • ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) Certification or within one year of employment
  • Trauma experience preferred

Physician Assistant Job Summary:

The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership of the Center for the Section Chief of General Surgery. The PA has acquired the knowledge, skills and judgment necessary to assist the physician / surgeon through organized instruction and supervised practice. This licensed health professional will take patient histories, conduct examinations, diagnose illnesses, order and interpret laboratory tests and assist during complicated operations.

Trauma Physician Assistant Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Education: Completion of an accredited (physician assistant) educational program required.
  • Licensure: Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for: State of Illinois licensure/registration required
  • Trauma experience preferred
