Departmental Overview

The Disabled Students' Program (DSP) provides services to meet the unique educational needs of regularly enrolled students with permanent or temporary disabilities. Our staff includes disability specialists, service providers, and accessibility experts who serve our students with disabilities throughout their educational career.

DSP is under the umbrella of the Division of Equity and Inclusion, as disability is a part of the diversity fabric. While the primary focus and mission of DSP is to serve documented disabled students, DSP staff also work closely with faculty, administrators, and staff to build a more accessible learning environment. DSP outreach also works to benefit students who may not have self-identified a need for accommodations and who may not even be aware of their disability rights. 


Support growth and program development 

  • Plan and develop curriculum, present and implement innovative programming, assess financial literacy programs, processes, and activities for students with disabilities.
  • Complete financial literacy 101 online programs 
  • Support students with financial literacy 101 (online literacy program) on budgeting, transitioning after college, credit cards, investments and debt repayment, loan repayment, and scholarships. 
  • Provide students with mobile app's that connects to student checking, savings and credit card accounts, as well as any investments or loans, tracking and categorizing in real time to help students manage their revenue and expenses). 
  • Provide administrative assistance to the Trio Director and for the program.
  • Maintain all data entry, databases and analysis.  Keep all files, records updated, create reports and proposals. (Blumen, SIS, AIM, Excel-spread sheets, B-course)
  • Manage administrative infrastructure, including program description, strategic plan and assessment tools (formative and summative).
  • Oversees TRIO Slottman Hall Unit One Center, and managing TRIO calendar events.
  • Supervise, train and oversee Peer Leadership program.
  • Develop and coordinate event programs (orientation and workshops), generate workshop topics, and identify and confirm facilitators.
  • Monitor student development progress through monthly individual consultations. Maintain student caseload.
  • Assist with recruiting students to the TRIO program; complete interviews and student success plans.

Administration and Coordination

  • Schedule and organize meetings/events and maintain agenda.
  • Ensure implementation of policies and practices.
  • Maintain budget and track expenditures/transactions.
  • Ensure technology is used correctly for all operations (video conferencing, presentations etc.).
  • Prepare paperwork and order supplies for staff and the program.
  • Participate in one-on-one with supervisor, team meetings and trainings, including weekly team meetings with TRIO staff, mid-semester and semester review team meetings; and training and professional development, as applicable.
  • Manage communications for all media outlets (ex. newsletter and social media platforms) 


  • Inclusion and Belonging: Provide a welcoming and safe environment for students and staff to succeed in the TRIO program.
  • Support students, staff and faculty by attending and participating in campus events.


  • Help build positive relations within the team and external parties, including collaborating with key campus stakeholders such as the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, specifically Bears for Financial Success, Other Student Support Services (EOP, McNair) and Graduate School Office.
  • Become a resource on campus by gaining familiarity with campus and community resources.
  • Recruit students to participate in workshops.
  • Participate in ongoing TRIO, People in Culture & Culture and Information Technology trainings.  
  • Participate in professional development trainings, and keep abreast of the latest trends and best practices in the field.
  • Participate in committees as assigned.
  • other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Comprehensive understanding of key financial literacy topics, such as scholarships, transitioning after college, money management, credit-building, predatory lending, financial planning, asset allocation, investing and insurance and consumer issues.
  • Comprehensive understanding and mastery skills of PowerPoint, Excel Spreadsheets, Access, Database Management, Adobe Creative Cloud, InDesign, zoom, google, Screencast-o-Matic, VoiceThread, Vimeo.
  • Knowledge of Mint, or other similar databases/mobile apps that connects to student checking, savings and credit card accounts, as well as to any investments or loans, tracking and categorizing in real time student revenue and expenses.
  • Knowledge and Mastery of best practices in facilitating workshops in financial literacy and academic support, including pedagogies that engage workshop participants and students with disabilities at all levels.
  • Knowledge of program management, development procedures, and best outreach practices.
  • Personal acumen to communicate with students, faculty, staff, and vendors concerning access accommodations.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required to work effectively with students with disabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills need to work with faculty and other campus entities regarding a student's accommodations and other academic needs.
  • Must have excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Must exemplify attention to detail/detail oriented, efficient, tech savvy and proficient with MS Office and Adobe suite.
  • Must demonstrated an ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Strong computer technology skills and the ability to function in both Mac and PC environment and be proficient  working with various software programs and database systems.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work with diversity and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor's Degree or a related advanced degree or two years of full-time relevant experience and working with college students with disabilities.   

Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of procedures for assessing and determining disability accommodation issues, including the Disability Compliance Office procedures.
