The Staff Physician for UMIC Baltimore and Waterloo Primary Care will provide outpatient primary care medical services to students, faculty, staff and dependents of the University of Maryland Baltimore. This physician will also be responsible for primary care medical services to a panel of new and established patients at Waterloo (Columbia, MD).  

Performs professional duties and technical procedures of the particular area of specialty to provide examination and treatment of patients. Orders and analyzes appropriate tests and procedures to provide information on patient's condition; and other duties as assigned.

In addition to the normally accepted skill set of a Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician, the person in this position is expected to:   

  • Be proficient in Primary Care, Urgent Care and Women's Health Care for a young adult and full spectrum population (including immunizations, contraception, and mental health treatment)  
  • Have experience in procedural skills such as suturing, incision and drainage and minor excisions  
  • Have a working knowledge of CDC guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic  
  • Be able to assist the Department of Family & Community Medicine in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic in general and specifically with UMIC's care of the students, faculty, and staff of the University of Maryland Baltimore  
  • Have the ability to deal positively, tactfully, and productively with students, faculty, staff, and university administrators  
  • Maintain confidentiality according to UMIC and Waterloo primary care rules and established regulatory guidelines  
  • Be available to consult with the Medical Director and Asst. Medical Director as needed  
  • Participate in committees and departmental meetings   
  • Provide clinical oversight to the Advanced Practice Providers  
  • Provide clinical oversight to the Ancillary Staff  
  • Participate in committees and departmental meetings  

* Doctoral degree in Medicine in area of specialty
* 3-5 years of clinical experience
* CPR required
* ACLS/BCLS required
* Board certification/eligibility in area of specialty
* Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, and/or publishing.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific need
* Highly effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, patient's families, departmental units, and medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
