Description

The Service of Process (SOP) Supervisor manages the organization's legal documents served electronically through UPS's agent for service of process, Corporation Service Company (CSC), and worldwide mail service. He/She reviews large quantities of claim types, lawsuits, subpoena requests, and requests training for outside legal counsel on the UPS response process. This position negotiates with high profile third party government agencies, Federal Agents, UPS customers, account executives, and law firms to clarify and finalize legal requests, make document productions, and minimize expense and risk to the organization. He/She develops key UPS contacts and relationships to ensure the success and accuracy of this position. The SOP Supervisor serves as the primary liaison to cross-functional operational management team members (e.g., Risk Management, Security, Payroll, Health & Safety, Information Security, Human Resources, and other UPS business units) to ensure accuracy of information received. This position supervises specialists and administrative assistants.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Reviews and processes in-house, employment records subpoena requests and shipping and delivery requests
  • Reviews, processes, and produces all other document requests and respond to and assist with confidential investigation inquiries
  • Runs matter reports and audit receipts of lawsuits for SOP accuracy and completion
  • Reviews and assigns service documents to various subsidiaries of UPS
  • Manages the third party relationship with UPS's counsel, including the training and development of team members managing thousands of legal requests annually
  • Ensures SOP confirmation emails are captured in the department's matter management system for chain of custody recordkeeping
  • Reviews and approves Information Security requests for delivery records
  • Acts as the primary liaison to payroll departments for employee garnishment research and resolutions of defaults
  • Serves as principal liaison with the Corporate Security group for highly confidential matters that require investigation, direction, or production
  • Coordinates deadlines and communication involved in response to subpoenas
  • Determines employees' training needs to produce continuous development plans
  • Provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance
  • Conducts performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to encourage continuous performance improvement
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS's policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork

  • Demonstrates understanding of implementation objectives, project plan, and one's role within a project; participates in the implementation of a project; provides timely, thorough, and concise updates for area of responsibility; identifies areas of risk and properly communicates them to the project manager
  • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of risk management fundamentals
  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of techniques for soliciting and gathering information
  • Demonstrates a general understanding of technology used by the company; communicates basic technological concepts and terminology; applies standard technology in daily work
