The Employee Screening & Compliance Specialist is a key role in the Employee Background Check processes at Waste Management.  Your PHR along with your 3 or more years of experience with managing employee data and reports, for multiple items will be critical to this role. 

 

This position is located in Houston, Texas and reports to the Manager, Employment Programs.  This position will travel up to 15% of the time.

I.  Job Summary Serves as process compliance expert for the entire corporation for 4 key areas: Drug and Alcohol Testing, DQ Files, Background Checks and I-9's.  Performs Security related duties at the professional level with all levels in the field.  Reviews key areas for process knowledge, compliance, decision making on low level background checks, I-9 process issues.  Collects and analyzes quarterly drug and alcohol data to follow up on missing information, compliance status, correct categorization of testing and other functions related to the management of the drug and alcohol testing program.  Assists the Manager, Employment Programs in ensuring that all facets of compliance are maintained.  II.  Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Other minor duties may be assigned.
  • Primary contact for management of Company random testing programs (DOT, Energy Services, etc.)
  • Supports the field in DQ file compliance issues
  • Liaison between WM and Form I-9 in regard to compliance with all I-9 items for new hires or audits
  • Review and grade first level background check issues on MVR's, Verification of Education / Employment and low level criminal activity
  • Conducts follow up on vendor issues
  • Provides support for acquisition activities
Supervisory Duties: This job has no supervisory duties. IV.  Qualifications The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.   A.  Education and Experience  Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.   Experience:  3 years of relevant experience in role where management of employee data / reports for multiple items has been a key function (in addition to education requirement).   B.  Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements   Preferred: PHR certification   C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities   Required:  Advanced level computer skills in Microsoft Office and PeopleSoft and ACE.   V.  Work Environment   Listed below are key points regarding environmental demands and work environment of the job.   • Required to use motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc) most of the work day;
