Chemical Waste Management, Inc. (CWM) Lake Charles

In operation since 1978, this award-winning, environmentally safe hazardous waste facility boasts a stellar safety record and an excellent technical service team. CWM Lake Charles adheres to strict regulations administered and overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region VI and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LADEQ).

The CWM Lake Charles Facility is one of the most secure treatment and disposal facilities in the U.S. This facility is constructed inside the perimeter of a 40' deep bentonite clay slurry wall. Disposal cells, constructed under very strict EPA and state guidelines, utilize double layers of 60 mil High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE). Additional security measures include a sophisticated leachate collection system, monitoring wells, as well as a complex leak detection system.

Located in Sulphur, Louisiana, CWM Lake Charles offers convenient access just minutes south of I-10. CWM Lake Charles provides environmental and hazardous waste services for business and industries in the Gulf Coast, Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi and surrounding areas.

Rotating Shift:

You will be working 12 hour rotating shift

6:30 am – 6:30 pm Mon – Fri

6:30 pm – 6:30 am Mon - Thur

Job Summary

Operate and monitor control room instrumentation of a Thermal Desorption Unit. Perform troubleshooting, preventative checks, maintenance, and repairs on pumps, motors, pipes, valves, electrical systems, and various other mechanical equipment necessary for the continuous operation of the Thermal Desorption Unit.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Monitors the TDU unit's temperature, pressure, etc. at various points in the process.
  • Monitors the performance of numerous motors, pumps, ventilations systems, electrical systems, utilizing control room interface.
  • Performs preventative checks and maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, etc.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots mechanical issues and repairs or replaces pumps, motors, fans, electrical systems, etc.
  • Checks operation and status of facility operations being controlled by control panel.
  • Controls the operations of treatment process to maximize waste feed and treatment rates with specific instructions and regulations. Continuously checks operation on computer.
  • Generates reports on the computer as necessary.
  • Reports all abnormal situations to Management.
  • Records all pertinent information in the control room log.
  • Communicates all pertinent information along to field crews.
  • Operates, records, and monitors computer functions.
  • Maintain hourly logs and operations data.
  • Initiates corrective actions in critical situations.
  • Performs shut-down and start-up operations.
  • Maintains control room housekeeping and maintenance.
  • Checks graphic display panel for integrity.
  • Insures cleanliness of control panel, control room and computer.
  • Assists in maintenance of records and files.
  • Acts as a CPR and first aid provider at the unit.
  • Maintaining a safe work environment including cleaning the work station, reporting defective equipment, storing and handling equipment or materials
  • properly, and participating in company training.
  • Following site safety and environmental policies and practices.
  • Participating in safety meetings, problem solving meetings, incident and near-miss investigations.

Supervisory Responsibilities
May act as a Lead over other hourly team members.

Education and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D (accredited).
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing pumps, motors, valves, and other mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Past computer experience or facility computer training (seminar or on-the-job training). Trained in the aspects of RCRA requirements.
