Here is some of what you can expect from being a Fitness Specialist Cardiac Services with us:
- Develops new education designed to assist the Cardiac rehabilitation patient with controllable risk factor management
- Teaches nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle classes according to medical protocols of obesity, lipids, and other behavior modification based wellness programs
- Provides fitness and physical assessment measurements and individualized exercise prescriptions that are in line with the ACSM American College of Sports Medicine organization
- Assists in the Cardiac rehabilitation process for referred cl ients, working in accordance with established Wesley Medical Center policies
- Counsels patients one-on-one requiring nutritional, exercise, and lifestyle interventions, such as smoking cessation, living with heart disease and stress management
- Effectively responds to all stressful and emergency situations arising in the cardiac rehab area, ensuring that all Wesley Medical Center policies and procedures are fol lowed
- Acquires and maintains current knowledge in the concepts of exercise science, health education and behavior management
- Maintains or improves patient safety and cleanliness in the Cardiac Rehab department
- Participates or initiates a process improvement for the department
- Assists with the recruitment and orientation of new and prospective patients to the Cardiac Rehab program
- Assists annually with the delivery of wellness and prevention programs or presentations sponsored by Wesley Medical Center
- Presents data, education or research information at least at one of the staff-meetings
- Establishes, develops and maintains a positive relationship with physicians, physician assistants and physician's RNs, whose practice involves potential referrals to the Cardiac Rehab program, encouraging them to utilize the services available
Qualifications
Required Registration, Licensure or Certification- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) verification course through American Heart Assoc. or American Red Cross - Healthcare Provider CPR
- Successful completion of Dysrhythmia Exam within 6 weeks
- Bachelor's degree in Health Education, Exercise Physiology, Physical Education or related field
