The Mechanical Engineer - Level I is a primary contributor to the engineering team's success.

This role reports directly to kmV's Mechanical Design Manager and will work closely with kmV's System Assembly Technicians. This role, in accordance with project specific requirements, concentrates efforts on Mechanical design and troubleshooting for automated testing equipment.  These efforts will inlcude developing tooling for KMV's products, create detailed mechanical drawings and documentation, help maintain Bills of Materials, support our quality systems, and work with vendors within the supply chain.

 

The successful candidate will have the ability to work effectively and develop lasting relationships with fast-paced, world-class, technically savvy clients. The Mechanical Engineer I will be a creative problem solver with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, confident in mechatronics design solutions, well-organized, and self-motivated. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, and a professional and courteous personality.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualize mechatronic solutions with a team of Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Apps Engineers
  • Use VOC (voice of customer) in creating 3D concept models to support the sales team
  • Produce detailed 3D models of parts, complete mechatronic assemblies, and OEM products
  • Implement DFM (design for manufacturing) best practices
  • Use Six Sigma design principles to achieve capability and reproducibility in the system output.
  • Create and/or check detailed 2D drawings of parts and assemblies
  • Support the maintenance of Bills of Materials
  • Design and execute Proof of Concepts to determine feasibility and performance
  • Work hands-on with a wide variety of technology and applications
  • Collaborate in a small cross-functional team to achieve the best work product and exceptional project execution
  • Participate in training fellow assembly and engineering team members
  • Work to and meet tight timelines and aggressive schedules
  • Honor commitments to internal and external customers while demonstrating kmV's core values
  • Effectively communicate individual progress to reporting manager as well as project management team
  • Participate in internal and external customer-facing design reviews
  • Troubleshoot assembly issues during production
  • Ability to travel independently, travel estimate <= 20%

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant design experience required
  • SolidWorks (or equivalent) experience required
  • Computer literacy and Microsoft Office experience is a must
  • Experience with mechatronics (i.e., sensors, vision, motion control, PLC, robotics)
  • Experience or understanding of automation controls (i.e., electrical schematics, automation control)
  • Understanding principles of software code (vision programing) is a plus
