The focus of this role is to investigate (micro)architectural enhancements that enable energy efficient performance scaling on CPU multicores.

THE PERSON:

The candidate should have expertise with multiple of:

- CPU (micro)architecture and their corresponding cache hierarchies.

- Solid understanding of performance analysis flows.

- Familiarity with cycle-accurate simulators, excellent programming skills, preferably in C++ and Python.

- Familiarity with control and data flow speculation mechanisms as well as x86 ISA are a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Develop new concepts and innovations at the CPU microarchitecture level to improve performance and other key metrics such as power, area, cost, complexity.

- Partner with architects from the CPU product teams to refine and improve the effectiveness of the new concepts to maximize value.

- Perform detailed performance evaluation of the new concepts including but not limited to functional and performance modelling in cycle-level simulators, instruction set analysers, analytical models, hardware measurement and profiling.

- Design space exploration, workload characterization and tuning, performance/power/area trade-off analysis, concept refinement and optimization.

- Technical documentation of the work including internal presentations, patent applications, internal documentation, and external publications where appropriate.
