Director Tax – Europe & Asia

Type of Employment: Permanent

Location: Our office in Hague, the Netherlands

Visa requirements: A valid work permit from the EU/EEA (relocation assistance is not provided)

THE ROLE

Reporting to the Vice President, Taxation in Canada within our Global Finance / Global Tax team, the Director, Tax Europe & Asia will be responsible for leading the tax function in currently fourteen countries.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 

Here are ways that you'll help make journeys better:  

  • Manage the European and Asian tax function and personnel, including external providers, from a direct and indirect tax perspective with the support of the VP Tax.

  • Oversee all European and Asian tax structures including working with the VP Tax, the legal, treasury and finance teams and the local and foreign advisors to develop and coordinate local and international corporate tax strategies and manage daily tactical operations.

  • Lead various international tax, M&A tax and advisory issues and projects, including entry to new markets, project financing, post-acquisition integration, reorganizations, legal entity rationalization, etc.

  • Collaborate with business units and other functional groups to lead, develop, assist and/or implement corporate structures and special projects, aiming at maximizing business value and revenues and reducing tax risk for the group.

  • Manage the European and Asian income tax provision process for the consolidated reporting and review all associated documentation including the effective tax rate, local country tax memos, IFRS quarterly and annual reporting and footnote disclosures for the European and Asian countries.

  • Monitor EU and Asian tax-related initiatives and other global tax landscape/legislative changes, such as BEPS, public CBCR reporting, ESG and tax strategy disclosures and other initiatives that seek to enhance tax transparency and reporting by multinationals.

  • Support implementation of Pillar 2 reporting and compliance.

  • Coordinate European and Asian Country-by-Country Reporting and foreign affiliates reporting, with the support of local tax personnel in each jurisdiction.

  • Review dividend models for the group and coordinate the funds repatriation process.

  • Be responsible for understanding the tax implications of working in foreign jurisdictions for both compliance and transfer pricing considerations.

  • Ensure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for income taxes and verify operational effectiveness of tax key controls.

  • Develop and document tax policies and procedures, educate other company personnel in tax policies and procedures.

  • Investigate and resolve tax issues as they arise.

  • Manage and oversee all tax requests and tax audits.

  • Accurately forecast annual effective tax rate and cash tax obligations.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED 

We want you to join our team! Here's what we're looking for: 

  • Hold a degree in accounting/tax and a professional tax designation.

  • 10-12 years of experience in tax and accounting, or similar position in an international company.

  • Strong skills in tax accounting.  Good knowledge of accounting standards IFRS related to income tax.

  • Experience with tax technology development and transformation.

  • Strong ability to manage personnel and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Strong skills of Office tools such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

  • Strong communication skills in English with an ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and translate complex tax matters to management and cross functional colleagues.

  • Show organization skills, initiative, resourcefulness, autonomy, accuracy, agility, commitment and have a good analytical and business mind.
