Reporting to the Team Lead, Classification and Job Design, you will be responsible for all classification decisions and job design advice for an assigned group of clients. You will ensure that positions are assessed and evaluated in a fair and equitable manner ensuring that employees are compensated appropriately for their work responsibilities.

This position assesses, audits and analyzes all non-management and management positions using the City of Edmonton's classification specifications and Job Architecture System evaluation tools.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary Employee Services Team developing proactive job design approaches and solutions within an assigned client portfolio Undertake comprehensive job evaluation analysis of positions and make a final determination with regard to the classification level of management and non management positions using the City of Edmonton's classification specifications
  • Assess jobs to determine appropriate union  jurisdictional placement Develop written rationales, as necessary, to support job evaluation decisions
  • Effectively handle, manage and respond to individual job classification files, review requests, and appeals on a timely basis
  • Conduct organizational reviews and develop proactive job design approaches and solutions for an assigned client portfolio
  • Provide strategic advice on initiatives or projects that require compensation and classification expertise, ensuring advice provided is timely, accurate and practical
  • Work closely with the Labour Relations section in developing tactical implementation strategies and processes and practices for jobs moving into the scope of the union
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date tracking of the status of job classification files and provide the supervisor with information on statistics 
  • Update and/or develop new Classification specifications to satisfy evolving business needs
  • Prepare and present Umpire cases effectively, using an evidence based approach
  • Provide client education and facilitate training sessions
  • Research industry best practices, provide recommendations on compensation principles, and incorporate innovative technologies Demonstrate strong teamwork and participate in projects and committees
  • Other related duties as required
