The MinuteClinic Sub-Investigator assists in providing medical services in a unique retail setting. Under the supervision of a MinuteClinic Senior Practice Manager, with day to day direction from the clinic Provider, the Sub-Investigator will advance the evidence-based practice in all patient encounters as they perform the major job duties and tasks within the scope of their training.
Major job duties and tasks
1. Phlebotomy Services
a. Perform blood draws and sending samples to a reference lab for processing.
b. Able to demonstrate proper collection techniques in accordance with the laboratory collection services policy and procedure manual.
c. Maintains knowledge of laboratory tests and appropriate computer ordering codes.
d. Process specimens maintaining specimen integrity according to individual test requirements.
2. Performing medical services
a. Collect and document vital signs on patients
b. Preparing, administering and providing vaccination services.
c. Collect hair and oral fluid specimen samples and send to a reference lab for testing.
d. Operate an EKG device for non-emergency readings on patients.
e. Capture images of a patient's retina by using a fundus camera.
f. Perform CLIA waived point of care testing on patients.
g. Perform additional medical services that fall within the licensure of a Registered Nurse under the supervision of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
3. Quality Patient Care
a. Performs a focused history and physical assessment per MinuteClinic clinical guidelines.
b. Provides patient education verbally and in writing regarding the diagnosis and treatment plan.
c. Demonstrates courteous and professional manner toward the public.
d. Responds to patients/customers' needs. Focuses on retaining current patients and attracting new clients.
e. Knowledgeable of the EMR system including ability to register patients, document clinical record, and manage end of visit activities
4. Integrity and Professionalism
a. Adheres to the appropriate code of ethics and works within the MinuteClinic scope of practice.
b. Demonstrates a high level of confidentiality and trustworthiness.
c. Acts in a way that promotes a positive, respectful, and supportive environment for patients and family.
d. Takes responsibility for quality of own work.
e. Continually strives to increase knowledge and skills. Stays current with medical/healthcare trends and procedures, etc.
f. Maintains appropriate and up-to-date licensing, certifications, and CME.
g. Uses resources efficiently, conservatively and is cost conscious.
h. Follows MinuteClinic policies and procedures.
i. Presents self in a professional manner; always follows the dress code.
j. Defines goals for performance appraisal and completes goals established at the previous appraisal.
k. Regularly attends and participates in staff meetings, promoting teamwork and providing constructive, honest input.
l. Supports the organizational goals and objectives.
m. Fosters a team environment among co-workers and does not negatively influence employees or site operations.
5. Clinic Environment
a. Keeps the clinic clean and uncluttered.
b. Assist with managing patients in the waiting space and level set wait time expectations.
c. Act as a chaperone if a patient or provider in the primary exam room requests one.
d. Champion a culture of medical and business accountability, and communicate opportunities and recommendations to the provider.
e. Drive operational excellence to maximize clinic workflow, patient experience and quality standards.
f. Answer questions regarding insurance co-payment, billing and additional charges for services.
g. Ordering and maintaining adequate supplies for the clinic.
h. Participate in community engagement outreach and initiatives to drive practice growth.
i. Follows universal precautions in cleaning up or disposing of any blood of body fluids.
j. Returns all resources back to original place, which is consistent in every clinic.
6. Administrative Duties
a. Participates as requested in representing the company to the public at various professional conferences and seminars.
b. Communicates questions and agenda items for staff meetings.
c. Assists in finding replacements to cover unanticipated time off or schedule changes that are unrelated to illness.
d. Assists in new employee training when needed.
7. Additional Duties
a. Employee may be required to complete or be responsible for additional job duties as assigned by Nurse Practitioner, Senior Practice Manager, or Area Director.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, use hands to write, operate the computer, phone, speak intelligibly and hear. Specific vision abilities include the ability to view and read a computer. The employee must be able to understand and answer questions and be able to communicate with the public. The employee must be able to work at least 9 hours per day.
Minimum of one year related work experience to include working with patients in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting and under the direct supervision of an advanced practice provider, with an Electronic Medical Record, taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy blood draws and performing Point of Care Testing.
The LPN/LVN must have a full, active and unrestricted license as a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States or District of Columbia.

Graduate of a school of Practical or Vocational Nursing, approved by the State Agency and/or accredited by the National League for Nursing (Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
