Overview

Maintains the integrity of monitoring in the dual role of patient safety surveillance or cardiac rhythm technician. Serves as an integral member of the patient care team.

Provides real time virtual safety surveillance on a patient that has been identified as requiring visual monitoring per policy and procedure and as supervised by a Registered Nurse. The central monitoring technician will provide continuous monitoring of heart rhythms and dysrhythmia interpretation as per policy and procedure and supervised by a Registered Nurse.


Responsibilities
  1. Continuously monitors cardiac rhythm and recognizes, identifies, analyzes, and documents arrhythmias, abnormal cardiac rhythms, rhythm changes and promptly reports pertinent findings or changes to the clinical nurse.
  2. Documents per the Remote Telemetry and Redundant Cardiac Monitoring Policy and related documents.
  3. Provides real time video monitoring of assigned patients meeting criteria to ensure patient safety and documents per Virtual Patient Safety Surveillance Policy.
  4. Responds to all alarms and initiates communication promptly. Understands clinical area chain of command for escalation as needed.
  5. Communicates clearly and compassionately with patients while performing virtual patient safety surveillance.
  6. Notifies responsible direct care clinicians and supervisor immediately in the event of a failure of monitoring equipment.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate required.
  • Must demonstrate keyboarding skills and be familiar with computer use.
  • Previous hospital experience preferred.
  • Completion of advanced dysrhythmia course upon hire and successful passing grade on organizational EKG test upon completion of orientation and annually.
  • Effective Communication skills
  • Successful completion of competency based orientation program
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple competing priorities.
