Job Details

General Summary: 

The Director of Personalization collaborates with leadership to determine the Personalization vision and conveys that vision to the cross-functional pod team, ensuring the Pod remains grounded in the customer. They are responsible for Pod success — delivering the right customer experience across paid and owned channels and meeting the business goals of the Pod. They gather data and insights and help to prioritize ideas in the backlog. They work closely with the Sr Director of Marketing and the Strategy / Test Leads to develop, design, build and launch tests in sprints and support efforts to learn and scale.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads team in alignment against strategy and goals
    • Clearly communicate Personalization goals and overall strategy
    • Track and measure Pod progress towards goals, including working with Measurement and Test Leads to finalize measurement results and scaled impact
    • Interfaces with Control Tower and works closely with Activation Owner to ensure the pod is set-up for success (right people, tools, process)
    • Runs Daily Stand-ups with the full pod and ensures the pod process follows Agile principles
  • Ensures activation of customer strategies
    • Identify priorities for further analysis in collaboration with analytics
    • Coach Pod members on the use of data and insights to drive hypotheses
    • Plans and hosts ideation sessions to surface new personalization ideas
    • Works with other areas of the business (e.g., Digital Products, IT, Media Network) to bring in ideas and manages overall audiences that are used for owned strategies as well as paid channels (including the media network)
  • Leads Pod Sprint Planning process ensuring focus on impact
    • Partners with PZ strategy lead to prioritize the backlog – surfaces high impact ideas, collaborates with Test Leads to prioritize each Sprint
    • Lead Test Filtering and Sprint Planning ceremonies making sure that teams are on track for throughput targets
    • Pressure-test prioritized tests, ensuring that largest impact test are the focus
    • Leads test execution and Sprint Kickoff (e.g., review test brief to ensure clear hypothesis and codification of test design)
    • Leverage learnings and insights to push the Pod to develop holistic customer journeys across all channels


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Strong customer orientation
  • Experience with cross-channel strategies – paid and owned
  • Fluency in data / insights to drive prioritization of high-impact tests
  • Strong written and oral cross-functional communication skills
  • Proven ability to motivate and inspire others into action and manage teams of 5-10; strong project management experience
  • Comfort with A/B testing, measurement methodology
  • MBA preferred
  • Confidence to be voice of authority – not afraid to do what is best for team
  • Comfort being assertive and balancing empathy with impact-orientation
  • High-energy and passionate outlook; can influence those around them
  • Bias for hypothesis-driven, data-driven thinking
  • Fail-fast mentality of testing, learning, and iterating
