Testing Required:

On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Ensures that DTE Electric's solar assets are maximizing energy production and operating at  design specifications. Mentors less experienced team members with operating and maintaining utility scale solar photovoltaic electric systems.  This role involves both equipment and communication system monitoring, maintenance, and repair. 

Key Accountabilities
  • Assists in reviewing solar plant designs, with both new sites and modifications to existing assets.
  • Provides quality control and supervisory support on future construction of solar plants.
  • Recommends enhancements and implements improvements to increase plant output.
  • Responsible for program oversight of periodic aerial inspections; including retainment of applicable licensing.
  • Lead periodic testing and troubleshooting for battery energy storage systems.
  • Performs remote diagnostic checks and equipment resets as needed.
  • Lead planning and execution of facility tours with stakeholders and community members.
  • Creating and revising standard work instructions.
  • Operating aerial drone equipment for periodic stie inspections and troubleshooting.
  • Lead or direct emergency response activities, as well as working scheduled on-call shifts.
  • Conducts planned maintenance activities, as well as responds to emergent issues.
  • Provides on-the-job training to less experienced field staff.
  • Documents daily jobs in work management system.
  • Prioritizes safety daily, in addition to leading site safety meetings, analyzing job hazards, and providing prompt resolution.
  • Performs industry related research and benchmarking and share best practice recommendations. 
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED and 7 years of experience in the overall aspects of design engineering, construction, start-up/commissioning, and/or subsequent O&M of renewable energy projects.
Other Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in Electrical-related field
  • Technical certificate in energy or related discipline
  • Solar Service Technician Certification
  • North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Certification
  • Knowledge of plant level controls and low voltage equipment
  • Knowledge of electrical safety procedures

 

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to other locations
  • Must have valid driver's license
  • Ability to obtain FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification for drone operation
  • Working knowledge and experience operating under OSHA 1910.269, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E and 70B
  • Proficient reading technical specifications documents, site plans and electrical schematics
  • Knowledge in various photovoltaic technologies, control systems, field measuring devices, network hardware and electric metering
  • Comfortable working with up to 1,500VDC and 1,000VAC
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, logical reasoning, written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and set priorities
  • General computer proficiency
  • Keeping work vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working condition
  • Comfortable working outdoors in inclement weather
  • Must be able to push, pull and lift tools and equipment weighing up to 75 lbs
