Job Summary:
Perform routine & highly specialized diagnostic & therapeutic interventional radiology procedures on patients following established parameters/protocols for use by physicians in diagnosis & treatment of pathologies under general supervision. Essential Responsibilities:

    • This postion include but are not limited to, assisting with pre and post patient assessment, patient teaching, assisting with patient care with scope of practice, inventory management, schedule coordination, and circulating and scrubbing roles during procedures.

    • Assists physicians with a range of procedures using fluoroscopic imaging that require the use of contrast media.

    • Uses proper radiation safety measures to conform to the ALARA principle according to departmental Radiation Safety Policies & Procedures.

    • Prepares work schedules to assure that sufficient number of staff is available for patient appointments.

    • Assures that staff explains Interventional Radiology procedures to patients and that consent forms are obtained. Actively participates in the Universal Protocol for all procedures.

    • Provides training and guidance to assure that equipment is properly and safely operated.

    • Assists staff to confirm that images meet requirements of radiologists.

    • Checks the status of the imaging and specialty equipment to ensure device is proper operating condition

    • Troubleshoots technical and mechanical problems and performs minor maintenance on equipment. Properly enters service requests for equipment failure and notifies IR Manager appropriately.

    • Orders equipment, film, and supplies and assures that inventories are properly managed.

    • Assures that patient information files are prepared and filed correctly.

    • Reviews and submits reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.

    • Performs QC Lead duties as an Interventional Radiology Technologist as required.

    • Performs other related QC Lead duties as directed.

    • Communicates effectively with patients, nurses, and physicians, particularly regarding information on angiography procedures requiring specialized patient preparation.

    • Communicates with clinicians regarding patient preparation for angiography/ interventional procedures, procedure results and to assist in resolving problems as needed.

    • Maintains proper documentation for internal and external Regulatory compliance.

    • Systematically and continuously collects, assesses, and documents data in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide procedural care for the patient. Documentation of the procedure and medical care during procedure will require computer skills to complete electronic medical record. Maintains an expertise in image acquistion, transfer, and archiving.

    • Assists in maintaining perpetual inventory count and scans product not in inventory systems.

    • Assists in maintaining a smooth operational flow & maximum patient volume.

    • Assumes many roles within an interventional procedure.

    • Assists in positioning the patient, select radiation exposure parameters & image the patient. Maintains a high degree of accuracy & an awareness of all radiation & patient safety issues involved with any invasive procedure. Demonstrates a thorough understanding & working knowledge of normal anatomy, abnormal & physiology, radiation safety, interventional supplies & equpment operation.

    • Able to identify adverse events or unanticipated outcomes using critical thinking skills and notifies the medical staff including nurses, physician assistant, and physicians appropriately.

    • Maintains licensure, certification and ongoing CEUs for professional development on a timely basis.

    • Performs other related duties as directed.


Basic Qualifications: Experience

    • Minimum three (3) years of recent (within the last 12 months) experience as a Radiologic Technologist in a hospital supporting fluoroscopy and c-arm/surgical procedures.
