The Associate Administrator, Laboratory Services will be responsible to assure the efficient operation of all Laboratory Services operations throughout KMC hospitals and USC Care clinics. This individual will assess, plan, implement and evaluate all aspects of programs and ensure their financial viability, quality of service, efficient and effective operation. The Associate Administrator will ensure accountability for the delivery of services for all applicable regional satellites. The job encompasses integration, facilitation and coordination of the leadership, management, and operational services. This individual serves as a professional role model, leader, mentor and resource to all team members. The individual must consistently support the mission and values of the organization, advance quality, operations, and patient experience. The Associate Administrator organizes, applies, directs, controls, and evaluates all resources including responsibility for quality and clinical lab performance, achievement of financial goals, management of personnel, development and oversight of new programs, coordination of assessment and consulting services for non-managed programs, joint venture oversight, and building trust through communication and collaboration that develops a performance-oriented culture-based accountability. Serves as a subject matter expert and is responsible for developing business process models to continuously optimize and enhance operating results across the health system.

Essential Duties:

  • Provides leadership in collaboration with executive leader for strategy, business and program development initiatives.
  • Meet and build relationships with senior executives (CMO, CFO, COO, etc.) by presenting and discussing industry trends, best in class strategies, and gaining buy in for program objectives
  • Implement and lead lab governance and operational models in the region that support the transformation of laboratory services to a more cost and quality competitive structure.
  • Ensure compliance with rigorous standards such as The Joint Commission, CLIA, CAP, AABB, FACT, and state/federal regulations.
  • Establish organizational structures and management systems to achieve strategic and tactical goals for delivery of laboratory services in the region in support of the system lab strategy.
  • Directs and coordinates laboratory activities to ensure services are provided on schedule with expected quality and within cost expectations.
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program and safety standards.
  • Responsible in developing and monitoring departmental budgets. Establishes the operating budgets for the various departments and monitors performance against budgets.
  • Develops management objectives and policies for the various departments and monitor results. Interpret objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinates the activities of the assigned departments with other departments both within and outside the hospital. Resolves problems with department heads concerning use of resources. Encourages and maintains open lines of communication with and between employee groups, other medical personnel, and patients and their family members.
  • Evaluates the performance of the various departments as well as the performance of key managers and supervisors. Advises employees promptly when performance problems arise, or changes are needed.
  • Selects, trains/orients, assigns Management staff, evaluates performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field
  • 5-7 years Hospital laboratory management experience in a complex laboratory with multiple locations, complex testing and large employee group.
  • Knowledge in the following laboratory procedures and instruments: clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, virology, and immunology.
  • Working knowledge of assay validation, quality assurance and quality control procedures and properly documenting laboratory processes and procedures as well as corrective actions and preventative actions (CAPA).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree Science, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist - CLS Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist License
  • Clinical Laboratory Specialist in Microbiology (ASCP) ASCP certification


Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $191,360.00 - $315,744.00.
