Job Summary

APEX (Always Performing for Excellence) is the Leonardo DRS Operational Excellence Program designed to drive our culture, our way of life to a new level as the team strives for excellence in pursuit of top performance.

Based in our Johnstown, PA 'Display, Processing, and Networking Center of Excellence,' or our 'Sensors and Weapons Center of Excellence' in Largo, FL., the Operational Excellence Manager supports the BU on Operational Excellence projects and initiatives and is viewed as an SME and business partner.

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage, oversee, and synchronize strategic integrated project plans that align with our commitment to Operational Excellence. (OpEx areas include Strategy Alignment, Innovation, Optimized Processes and Tools, Common Measurements, and Bench Strength).

  • Lead, guide, maintain and monitor operational excellence initiatives and activities, ensuring integration and coordination with Operational Excellence Leadership.

  • Communicate project updates comprehensively, clarifying objectives, risks, and mitigation strategies to all levels of management and stakeholders, while ensuring team members are synchronized with project timelines.

  • Manage budget, cost, schedule and rate of return for operational excellence activities.

  • Utilizing dashboards and KPI's, track performance of Operational Excellence Cost Savings and Project goals.

  • Orchestrate the Lean Six Sigma strategy, ensuring production aligns with industry standards, regulatory compliance, and customer expectations.

  • Conduct training that empowers our team to meet the objectives of Operational Excellence and excel in projects.

  • Oversee process improvement events, define and monitor performance metrics, and mentor APEX project managers.

  • Provide subject matter expertise in structured problem solving & root cause analysis, leading complex investigations and teaching / coaching others in problem solving methodology.

  • Execute initiatives supportive of 5S, Visual Controls, Change Management, and Strategy Deployment.

  • Elevate our business operations by focusing on material flow, line balancing, material presentation at the line-side, and the application of robust lean manufacturing principles.

  • Respond effectively to Corrective Action Requests, disseminating best practices across the organization.

  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, ensuring a clear understanding with customers, colleagues, and partners.

Job Responsibilities Part II

  • Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization
  • Provide advice and assistance to other departments as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or related engineering / technical field with a minimum of five years experience focused in Lean Practice and Problem Solving or Operational Excellence

  • Five years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Certification is desired in Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

  • Certification is desired as a Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Proficient technical expertise with demonstrated application

  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, negotiation, communication and writing skills
