General Summary of Position

MedStar's Franklin Square Medical Center is looking for a highly motivated registered nurse to join the team in the Neuro Critical Care Unit as our Clinical Coordinator. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to walking alongside the team in growing our Neuro Critical Care Unit. Some roles include monitoring metrics, auditing documentation and using clinical expertise to be a resource to the team. 

Is responsible and accountable for the provision of quality patient care and customer services on a defined patient care unit. Acts as a role model and coach in assuring the teams commitment and success in improving patient outcomes. Leads, coaches, and develops staff while also providing direct patient care. Facilitates team integration and the transition to Patient-Centered Care. Collaborates with the Manager - Patient Care Services.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Ensures compliance with business unit policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Develops and recommends department operating budget and manages resources according to approved budget.
  • Selects, trains, orients, and assigns department staff. Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance, and conducts performance management planning. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains ongoing communication with subordinates to review programs, provide feedback, discuss new developments, and exchange information.
  • Assists in the development of department goals, objectives, policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures and governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Counsels associates effectively and collaborates with appropriate manager/director to utilize the disciplinary process.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in making independent decisions when necessary and in providing/obtaining assistance and consultation when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates the ability to competently care for an assigned group of patients, serving as a role model for team collaboration and quality patient care.
  • Facilitates appropriate staffing for the unit.
  • Interviews prospective associates and makes recommendations for hiring.
  • Investigates and follows through on customer complaints and incidents and appropriately communicates to management.
  • Monitors care to assure an environment that is conducive to the physical, spiritual, and emotional wellbeing of the customer and to the development of staff.
  • Provides input to budget preparation. Assists in monitoring budget compliance, justifying any variances.
  • Supports implementation of new programs by acting as a role model and providing guidance and direction in practice changes that will improve the quality of patient care.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education

    • Valid RN license in the State of Maryland. required and
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred

    Experience

    • 3-5 years related clinical experience in Neuro Critical Care Unit preferred

    Licenses and Certifications

    • Valid RN license in the State of Maryland. required and
    • Valid CPR certification required

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Advanced level RN.
    • Management, organization, and leadership skills.
    • Analytical skill/ability to interpret statistical and financial reports, design control mechanisms, and monitor program performance.
    • Ability to direct, coordinate and manage independent decision consistent with hospital policies/procedures/standards.
    • Communication skills.
    • Ability to identify and resolve customer relation problems.
    • Analytical ability to identify and resolve operational problems.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills preferred.
