Summary of Role

The EHS Manager will support Nextracker's drive to conduct its business while meeting the highest standards of health and safety and minimizing our environmental impact. They will assist the EHS & Operations Directors with development, implementation and improvement of Nextracker's EHS Management System (policies, programs and initiatives to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our employees, contractors and visitors to our sites as well as the communities in which we operate). They will support the leadership team and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations. They act as the “EU Safety Champion” driving the continuous development of a world-class safety culture. They will also support our efforts to measure and minimize our environmental impact.

Responsibilities

  • Provides local (EU) strategic leadership of environmental, health and safety initiatives and programs, driving performance improvement and strengthening the safety culture.
  • Supports the EHS Director in developing and executing the company EHS strategy globally to drive world-class EHS performance across all sites.
  • Brings EU-specific safety knowledge, expertise and advice into the EHS team and helps ensure we meet all EU (and in particular Spanish) safety regulations
  • Supports the global EHS compliance programs worldwide. Helps identify and implement standardized EHS programs, best-in-class processes and KPIs worldwide.
  • Manages the EU EH &S function. Provides direction on EHS matters to all EU operations. Assists with establishing EU policies and procedures to achieve goals while reducing liability. Keeps abreast of the changing EU regulatory EHS climate and advises on and plans for impact.
  • Supports all EU management and staff in understanding their EHS obligations, and assists them in managing and meeting those obligations
  • Supports the Madrid Facilities Manager on all aspects of Facilities safety across Madrid facility, implements and manages a safe working environment for all workers, contractors and visitors at these facilities in accordance with EU & Spanish safety standards
  • Local expert in our EHS Management System and online software platform – must become local expert, superuser, and trainer
  • Extensive EHS training – required to manage and conduct all EU EHS in-house training (train-the-trainer with Operations & Asset Management teams)

Essential Experience and Qualifications

  • Environmental or Safety Engineering Degree, Diploma  or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial EHS experience, preferably in manufacturing, construction or an area with electricity exposure
  • Deep understanding of EU and Spanish standards and safety regulations
  • Previous experience in developing, implementing and improving EHS Management Systems under ISO45001 standard
  • Ability to travel independently to sites across the EU and abroad, hold and maintain unrestricted driver's license
  • Have or be willing to gain certification as internal auditor against ISO45001
  • Have or be willing to acquire First Aid qualifications

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

  • Passion for solar or renewable energy
  • Strong knowledge of PV technology and its applications
  • Strong knowledge of LV/HV electrical safety
  • Hands-on experience with photovoltaic tracking solar systems a plus
  • Professional safety / environmental accreditation (eg NEBOSH, CSP, etc)
  • Experience in effecting and coordinate cultural change
  • Environmental management system experience / training in internal audit against ISO14001 a plus

  • Excellent written and spoken ability in both Spanish & English, can present at any level internally and externally. Must be able to draft clear, coherent policy and process, training materials, technical and management reporting
  • Culturally aware and flexible – can deal with teams and people of all cultural backgrounds and drive cultural change in a sensitive manner. Can relate to and communicate well with CEO level to field workers
  • Tenacity and willingness to keep working to reach our goals
  • Strong computer literacy including MS Office suite, good Excel skills, experience with EHS MS platforms and willingness / ability to learn ours to expert level
  • Work well in a small team of EHS staff, but also very capable of self-motivation and direction.
