Job Summary
To provide direct patient care and patient education for fitting, measuring and dispensing of custom fabricated, prefabricated, off-the-shelf orthotic devices and other DME equipment and supplies. Participates in 24/7 on-call coverage.Accountabilities
-Provides fitting, measuring and dispensing of custom fabricated, prefabricated and off-the-shelf orthotic devices and soft goods such as those described below:
Cervical orthoses (soft cervical collar, Miami J/Aspen collars)
Pressure gradient hose
Trusses
Prefabricated and custom-made spinal orthoses (Jewitt/CASH Hyperextension Orthoses, LSO and TLSO), except those used in the treatment for scoliosis and "halo" devices custom fabricated or prefabricated orthoses of upper and lower extremities. - 25%
-Provides patients with DME in addition to orthoses as appropriate such as walkers, crutches, wheelchairs, TENS, CPM, and cold therapy. - 10%
-Provides patient/caregiver education for care and maintenance of the equipment and supplies. Ensures the patient understands the proper use of equipment, which my include how to: Maintain and clean the equipment, don/doff and adjust for proper fit if appropriate, inspect the skin for pressure areas, redness, irritation, skin breakdown, pain, or edema, use an appropriate interface to accommodate the orthoses where appropriate, report any problems related to the equipment, schedule follow-up appointments as necessary and to establish an appropriate wear schedule and schedule for tolerance of the orthoses. Documents education and the patient's level of understanding in the patient record. - 25%
-Ensures timely collection of physician prescriptions, patient demographics including insurance information and medical records for billing purposes. Submits all documents within the timeframes established by the Agency. - 15%
-Cleans/Disinfects and transports rental DME such as cold therapy equipment, TENS units, CPMs, wheelchairs and Roll-A-Bouts. Ensures the equipment is properly operating prior to dispensing. Maintains records as appropriate. - 10%
-Assists in the stocking and maintenance of appropriate inventories of durable medical equipment and orthoses. - 5%
-Participates in the on-call rotation for 24/7 services delivery. - 5%
-Assist in scheduling patient for follow-up visits and fittings. - 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibility
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training or Physical Education w/ Athletic Training emphasis
No experience required.
In Lieu Of
In lieu of the education and/or experience requirements indicated above, candidates hired prior to July 1, 2022 may qualify with a Bachelors Degree and 0 years of experience. Any candidates hired between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023 may qualify with a Bachelors degree and 1 year of applicable experience. After July 1, 2023 candidates may qualify with a Bachelors Degree and 2 years of applicable experience, if a Masters Degree has not been obtained.
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
South Carolina DHEC Athletic Training Certificate required.
South Carolina DRIVERS LICENSE
Other Required Skills and Experience
Requires a high level of physical activity and endurance as well as emotional stability. Constant movement and frequent heavy lifting are required.
