Description

We are looking for a Mid-Level Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our team in Hampton Roads, VA, primarily serving Department of Defense clients. The Candidate will be responsible for completion of task level work, including: field investigations (including soil, water, and air sampling; drilling and subcontractor supervision, and coordination with analytical laboratories), construction and/or remedial action oversight, health and safety air monitoring, and preparation of technical reports.  This is a hybrid work position (mix of home and office. Due to the clients we serve, this position requires US citizenship.

Your Role:

 •    This position provides mid-level geologic and hydrogeologic technical field support for environmental investigation and remediation projects, primarily in the areas related to geology, hydrogeology, remediation, fieldwork, and data interpretation/presentation
•    Evaluate geologic and chemistry data to reach sound technical conclusions and present/document findings in project reports using text, figures, graphs, etc.
•    Develop and assume responsibility for the execution of basic to moderately complex tasks/projects.
•    Plan and oversee/perform remedial investigations and remediation projects.
•    Provide field leadership role and field oversight.
•    Lead field testing, multimedia sampling, and other investigation fieldwork.
•    Maintain strong skills/capabilities regarding technical areas, especially in the areas of general hydrogeology and groundwater characterization/remediation
•    Provide guidance to and mentor junior staff in technical areas (including but not limited to the fields of general geology, hydrogeology, and groundwater characterization/remediation) to build overall technical capabilities of Tetra Tech staff
•    Technical report writing and data evaluation tasks.
•    Assume task management role based on capabilities and experience.
•    Assume supporting technical role for projects and/or programs.
•    Assume supporting roles in proposals and project management task.
•    Monitor Health and Safety aspects of projects and recommend changes as necessary.
•    Monitor Quality Assurance procedures and recommend necessary changes.
•    Work as a member of teams conducting hands-on multi-media environmental sampling, including surface and subsurface soil, overburden and bedrock groundwater, sediment, surface water, ambient air, indoor air, etc.
•    Monitor remediation work to ensure compliance with contract specifications, regulations, and industry standards.
•    Record and compile data into coherent products for customer use, interpret and explain findings to project teams.
•    Interpret data patterns and trends, compare to regulatory standards and assist in the development of recommendations for actions based on regulatory constraints. 
•    Prepare and assist preparation of written documents, sampling and analysis plans, data summary reports, and technical evaluations.

Qualifications:

•    Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in Geology, Hydrogeology, or Environmental Science is required. Advanced degree is a plus. 
•    Minimum 5+ years' experience with increasing responsibility in the environmental consulting market required.
•    Professional license or the ability to obtain professional licensure (e.g., PG, P.E.) is preferred.
•    40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and current 8-hour refresher training are required. 
•    8-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER supervisor is plus. 
•    10-Hour Construction Training is plus. 
•    Fractured bedrock experience is a plus.
•    CERCLA experience is plus. 
•    Experience with governmental projects is beneficial but not mandatory.
•    Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills are required.
•    Proficiency in delivering technical and business presentations is a plus.
•    Successful past performance directing, and supervising subcontractors is required. 
•    Experience working on and possibly leading the preparation of technical deliverables is required.

•    A driver's license current and valid for a state in the United States is required.
•    Previous field experience required, including sampling activities and environmental drilling operations, ability to work independently on field projects.
•    Experience preparing technical reports, memos, response to comments tables, and diagrams is required. Must be a competent technical writer.
•    Ability to analyze chemistry and environmental data is required.
•    Ability to interface with clients, subcontractors, working groups, and internal customers required.
•    Working knowledge of the conceptual site model process is preferred. Experience including CERCLA RI/FS and PA/SI is preferred.
