Position Summary:
  The position of APP in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, requires a highly competent, independent yet team-oriented individual who will be immersed in the outpatient program of an academic OBGYN practice and training program in a University-based setting. Under the supervision of Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs and guided by the applicable policies and procedures, the APP will participate in the comprehensive care of patients in the ambulatory or inpatient settings and provide multi-disciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians. The candidate's scope of service needs to be full breadth, supporting the following subspecialities of Gynecology Oncology, Urogynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM), Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Family Planning. However, the daily practice is expected to be supporting the Gynecologic Oncology service line on a regular basis. Candidate is expected to work in both outpatient and inpatient setting. The candidate is expected to function autonomously within a team-based environment in a very busy throughput practice. The candidate will also oversee urgent messages and triage patients with providing added support for covering providers in basket messages when the providers are out. Primary work location will be at the Todd Cancer Institute in Long Beach Medical Center. This position may perform: Approved privileges are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL privileges. The PA professional may provide patient care in age groups based on educational preparation and at all Health licensed settings and affiliates. The PA has responsibility for the standards of care for their specified patient population and evidence self-direction and accountability both to quality of care and in the development of their role within all Health locations and affiliates. Advanced Practice Practitioners (APP) are required to be credentialed to practice and be privileged through Medical Staff to function in their clinical role. Credentialing and approval of privileges must be completed prior to the first working day. The PA is accountable to, evaluated, and provided feedback by the supervising/collaborating physician, physician designee(s) in the same clinical specialty, or the Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs.

  The expected pay range for this recruitment is $76.08 - $104.43 (Hourly Rate). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $76.08 - $104.43 (Hourly Rate).

  Required:
  • Educational training and/or experience to support setting and patient population.
  • Applicants are expected to meet the legal requirements, or eligible, to practice as a Physician Assistant as determined by graduation from a physician assistant training program approved by ARC-PA; and be certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Must have a current DEA number from the US Drug Enforcement Administration and CURES registration upon hire.
  • Must possess a California License or current national certification. 
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. 
  • Must have current Advance Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with doctors, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement. 
  • Skill at clearly communicating medical information to broad variety of people, both in person and on the telephone. Knowledge of when specific diagnostic tests are indicated according to written protocol. 
  • Skill in performing diagnostic tests according to protocol. 
  • Skill to read medical instruments, editing data for errors and making necessary changes. 
  • Corrections of treatment modalities. 
  • Maintains clinical competence in the delivery of patient care in the specialty area. 
  • Ability to be trained in the use of specialized medical equipment and procedures. 
  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. 
  • Knowledge of the elements of a medical history and skill in the history taking process. 
  • Ability to perform various medical procedures. 
  • Must possess experience working with chronic pain patients. 
  • Experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. 
  • Knowledge of applicable billing practices for PA services 
  • Must possess licensure through the California Physician Assistant Board as a physician assistant. 
  • National board certification at the time of initial appointment 
  • Applicant must have completed a physician assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). 
  • Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date and meet current Medicare requirements for billing. 
  • Must have current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. 
  • Must have current Advance Life Support (ACLS) Certification. 
  • Must successfully complete the UCI Medical Center credentialing/privileging process. 
  • Must have a current DEA number from the US Drug Enforcement Administration and CURES registration upon hire. 
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience, specifically oncology, (interventional and medical treatments) with healthcare providers and interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary care teams Experience with clinical trials coordination Familiarity with UC policies and procedures EPIC-EMR system
