Description

Job Summary

The incumbent provides expert level technical support and as needed, coordinates and monitors the delivery of radiological services. The incumbent operates various types of x-ray equipment, fluoroscopic x-ray equipment and auxiliary equipment to provide diagnostic images for diagnostic interpretations by a radiologist. The incumbent ensures policies, procedures and protocols are followed in efforts to provide safe, efficient, and quality examinations. Work routines are guided by established procedures and protocols; quality of work performed is approved or reviewed by the Principal Radiological Technologist – Supervisor, Quality Control Technologist, Department Manager, or appropriate radiologist.

Incumbent may be required to oversee provision of radiological services and staffing coverage in absence of supervisor, which may require temporary working hour changes to provide adequate supervisor coverage when necessary. The incumbent may be responsible for coordinating or adjusting staffing as necessary to provide adequate support to all areas of the department. The incumbent may need to perform any job function of a radiology technologist or Senior Radiology Technologists (SRT), which may entail rotating shifts and/or assigned work location. The incumbent can troubleshoot, and problem solve effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of valid CRT
  • Fluoroscopy certificates
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification
  • ARRT® required.
  • Capably demonstrates the knowledge and ability to operate x-ray equipment in order to produce a quality product.
  • Must be able to adapt to new programs and equipment upgrades as radiological field advances.
  • Physical ability to capably perform all functions of a radiology technologist.
  • Skill to coach, instruct or train personnel in regarding to the technical functions of your work.
  • Ability to function and remain calm under multiple direction and/or fluctuations of work volume.
  • Skill to organize workload by priority to produce a sufficient volume of work in a timely manner.
  • Ability to assist healthcare practitioners during surgery or other sterile procedures.
  • Knowledge in regard to principles of physics of medical imaging.

Department Description

The Department of Radiology is a 24-hour, seven day a week operation providing Imaging Services to adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatients. The Principle Radiological Technologist (PRT) must be fully competent in the four main facets of the hospital-based X-ray department: Operating Room, Emergency Department, Fluoroscopy, and inpatient / portable services.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to work variable hours, alternate shifts, and overtime to provide coverage as deemed necessary by operational demands or patient care needs.
  • Must be able to rotate on-call for evening, weekend, and holiday coverage per departmental staffing guidelines.
  • Must be able to travel to other UCD imaging facilities. No smoking tobacco products allowed in work area or on University campus.
  • Must keep work area clean and free of debris. TB test, current CPR required annually per Joint Commission requirements.

Special Requirements

  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
