Description

The Speech Neuroscience Lab invites applications for a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to enroll research participants, administer communication/cognitive assessments and treatment protocols, and collect and manage data on multiple grant projects. The successful applicant will work with minimal supervision once training is complete. 

The SLP will be involved in research participant enrollment and screening, behavioral data collection, and overseeing EEG and MRI data acquisition. This position will also be responsible for the organization of behavioral data and coordinating regulatory materials and IRB-related documentation that will be part of these projects. The Speech-Language Pathologist position will be supervised by the Associate Directors of the Speech Neuroscience Lab.

Minimum Education and Experience

Master's degree in Communication Disorders and two years of clinical experience. In addition, the successful candidate must possess the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC – SLP) and hold a Texas State License in Speech-Language Pathology.

  • Preferred Qualification – TX State Licensure

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

Research Participant Interaction (50%):
  • Assist with the recruitment and enrollment of appropriate research participants.
  • Initiate and maintain consistent communication with research participants and family members to schedule required study assessments, EEG acquisition and MRI scans as well as treatment sessions.
  • Work with research participants and families to schedule assessment, data collection, and treatment sessions including EEG and MRI scans.
  • Work with research participants and families on acquiring travel reimbursement and/or lodging when needed.
  • Follow study protocols to administer communicative/cognitive assessments while carefully monitoring a research participant's ability, stamina, fatigue, and frustration level.
  • Administer specific study speech-language treatment protocols.
  • Schedule and complete follow-up sessions with research participants.
  • Participate in assessment and treatment fidelity activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Data Collection/Management (30%):
  • Administer communication/cognitive assessments at baseline and at follow-up visits.
  • Organize and prepare EEG and MRI data as well as centrally scored assessments for student raters.
  • Score, organize and enter remaining assessment data in research participant hard copy folders as well as in electronic databases (e.g. WebDCU, REDCap).

Regulatory (10%):
  • Complete all training required to work with research participants (e.g. CITI, eIRB) and submit the required documentation.
  • Assist with the preparation and submission of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and amendments as needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of case record forms (CRFs) and other data collection forms.

Supervisory (10%):
  • Assist with supervising graduate student assistants with coding EEG, MRI and central scoring tasks.
  • Directly supervise graduate students completing clinical assessment and treatment hours.
  • Assist with the training of new speech-language pathologists and other staff who interact with research participants.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Experience working with individuals with communication/cognitive disorders, preferably adults, in either a clinical or research setting.
  • Knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to take the initiative and make decisions about clinical issues.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.


Additional Information

Work will be performed on-site and in person.

Travel: This position may be subject to local travel for assessment, data collection, participant recruitment or participant needs. Other occasional travel may occur such as for training/development, conferences, etc.
