Position: Traffic Controller
Term: Full Time – Student - Contract 6 Months
Location: Sites (Cambridge : Cedercreek, Henning, Millcreek & Aberfoyle) – Dufferin Aggregates
Start Date: June 2024
Overview:
The Traffic Coordinator is a developmental role consisting of activities to maintain a wide variety of responsibilities mainly to support the operations team in producing, shipping, and managing traffic in and around gravel pits and quarries. You may have exposure to different areas within the group such as Dufferin Aggregates, Dufferin Concrete, and Dufferin Construction. The position requires a strong performer who can work independently and effectively within the team.
Position Responsibilities (key duties, scope of position, goals, expectations, and skill requirements:
• Assist in the field management of traffic including creating and updating traffic plans, as well as field presence to collect tickets and maintain reports.
• Possess a valid driver's license and demonstrate safe driving skills
• Ability to set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control devices such as signs, cones, barricades, and drums
• Skilled in directing and controlling the flow of vehicular traffic through the work zone
• Effective communication skills to provide clear, concise instructions to drivers
• Ability to work safely in an active construction or maintenance work zone environment
• Remain vigilant and responsive to changing traffic patterns and potential hazards
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to address unexpected situations
Work Environment:
• Field Environment / Trailer Office /
• Travel to multiple job sites
• Physical demands
Position Dimensions:
• Knowledge of Excel and MS Office.
• Ability to learn SAP and Computer Skills.
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Good communication skills both written and oral
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, organizational and time management skills
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities
• Capability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust and noise is required
• Customer-oriented
• Must have valid G driver's license
Educational Criteria:
• High School Diploma
• Degree in Civil, Geological or Material Engineering, Construction or Chemical Technology Program
