THE ROLE:  

We are looking for an Embedded Product Applications Engineer (PAE) to provide technical support for AMD FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), SoCs (System on a Chip), and ACAPs (Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform) as well as the associated tools, software drivers, and IP (Intellectual Property). The PAE will become a domain expert in all aspects of AMD Embedded Software, ARM, and X86 processor archietecture. The PAE will have a deep expertise in Market requirement for our Embeddee Products. The PAE  works directly with customers, field engineers, technical marketing, and AMD R&D in a worldwide team to rapidly resolve complex technical issues. The PAE enables customers to complete their designs and recommends improvements to AMD products. This role is focussed on cutting edge high performance Embedded applications.

 

THE PERSON:  

As a PAE you will deliver embedded application support to our growing customer base for the next generation of products AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) is producing. In this high visibility position, your expertise will be necessary to develop solutions, assess root causes. You will also be required provide input to our Solution planning and Engineering teams on our AMD Embedded solutions. There is also the opurtunity to contribute to AMD Open Source Embedded Software and develop Refernce Designs for publication.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Provide direct technical support to customers on critical design issues with a focus on embedded software and hardware 
  • Collaborate with cross functional team members to identify customer problems and propose appropriate solutions 
  • Advise customers on design techniques and the implementation of alternative solutions 
  • Develop tactical projects to explain or demonstrate product features. 
  • Generate self-support materials including application notes, reference designs, and answer records 
  • Analyze customer cases and use data to influence product improvements. 
  • Identify gaps in products, provide test cases and work with engineering to resolve problems  

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  

  • Experience in AMD device Boot processes and security features 
  • Building, debugging, and deploying complete embedded Linux systems from source, including bootloaders 
  • Use of U-Boot, Linux kernel, root filesystems, device-tree, QEMU and XEN hypervisors 
  • Computer architecture knowledge including interrupt, cache, and peripheral standards (Ethernet, USB (Universal Serial Bus), I2C, UART, CAN, DisplayPort). 
  • Experience in C, C++, shell/Python scripting  
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills  
  • High initiative and self-starter 
  • Ability to communicate technical information in an organized and understandable fashion 
  • Customer oriented approach with a demonstrated concern and desire to work with and assist customers 
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and track many activities 

 

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:  

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical or computer engineering or related equivalent
