GPU RAS Firmware Architect - Data Center / Server Security


The Role:

The Firmware Security Engineering group is responsible for developing Platform Security and Content Protection features across the software stack including device drivers, firmware, and application-level interfaces. Within the larger Security group, the GPU Platform Security Team is responsible for the Firmware Security Stack that runs on the entire range of AMD Graphics Processing Units which include Cloud/Consumer Gaming, Workstation, Data Center and AI, enabling our customers to build solutions and driving the next wave of innovation in Exascale computing.

The Person:

As a member of the GPU Platform Security Team you will participate in design, architecture and implementation of robust systems ensuring high levels of Reliability, Availability and Serviceability (RAS) is achieved for GPU products. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including System On Chip (SOC) Architects, Hardware Engineers, System Engineers and Software Engineers to create designs that meet stringent reliability requirements of our customers. You will be involved in all aspects of the development life cycle, engaging on parallel assignments spanning firmware stack, developing embedded firmware and device drivers. You will be responsible for developing security centric features on various Data Center SOCs by demonstrating low level HW and SW debug tools and evolving those towards production quality. There will be opportunities to become a specialist in SOC RAS architecture. In addition to Firmware development, there are several QA initiatives in flight within the team which you will be exposed to, such as CI/CD and Google Test for Firmware Unit test development. Experience in these areas will be considered an asset for the role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop RAS Firmware architecture for AMD's Data Center and Workstation GPU products. Analyze the reliability, availability and serviceability requirements with SOC architect and define a Firmware solution flow that meets customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Hardware IP teams, Software and Firmware teams to make sure the flow is demonstrated and understood well to achieve the required Reliability, Availability and Serviceability matrix.
  • At times will need to design and Implement Embedded SOC Firmware + Platform BIOS Firmware and x86 interface drivers.
  • Develop new software features and improvements within pre-silicon environments
  • Actively participate in design reviews and architectural discussions
  • Contribute to all phases of product development, from product definition and architecture and design, through implementation, debugging, testing and early customer support.

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong experience with SW development in C / C++ with strong code review skills
  • Experience or strong interest with low-level programming and debugging
  • Expertise in system level architecture design, optimizing RAS FW architectures
  • Critical thinking and ability to apply problem solving to real world challenges
  • Experience with embedded firmware development on ARM or x86 or RISCV microprocessors
  • Familiarity with pre-silicon validation on FPGAs or simulation environments along with ASIC bring-up will be considered an asset
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with low level development in C / C++
  • Knowledge of Cryptography, Platform Security, Virtualization concepts is an asset
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and analyzing complex system-level issues
  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, good work ethics, high sense of teamwork, love to produce quality work and commitment to finish tasks
  • You are a self-starter who loves to find creative solutions to complicated problems

 

Academic Credentials:

University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related subject area, + 5-7 years of proven experience.

Prior ASIC project deliverables experience will be an advantage.
