Overview.  The Asheboro Randolph Chamber of Commerce, located in Asheboro, North Carolina, is conducting an executive search for a President and Chief Executive Officer.  The organization represents the business community in terms of advocacy, small business support, and leadership initiatives. The Chason Group (www.thechasongroup.com) has been engaged by the chamber to lead the search process. 

Asheboro serves as the county seat for Randolph County and is located approximately 70 miles from the state's capital, Raleigh, and the same distance from Charlotte, the largest city in North Carolina.  Randolph County has a population of approximately 148,000 citizens. 

The Ideal Candidate. The ideal candidate for the Asheboro Randolph Chamber's President and CEO position is a professional who has business and/or chamber of commerce experiences.  The individual should have a proven track record of successful leadership in terms of guiding volunteers and developing a team of staff members.  The role of the Chamber President requires a person who understands how to collaborate and build relationships with stakeholders at all levels of business, government, and community status.  Accountability, both fiscally and measurable goals, will be a key indicator of the success of the person chosen for the position.

The Board is prepared to transform the Chamber into a stronger organization for the business community.  The new leader should be innovative, collaborative, and visionary.

About Asheboro/Randolph County, North Carolina.  Major employers in Asheboro include Randolph Hospital, Energizer Battery, The Timken Company, Technimark LLC,  Georgia Pacific Corrugated, Asheboro City Schools, and Post Consumer Brands. One of the best-known attractions in Asheboro is The North Carolina Zoo, one of the largest natural-habitat zoos in the world.  The facility is home to hundreds of animals from North America and Africa.

About The Chamber. The Asheboro Randolph Chamber of Commerce, with a membership of almost 770 strong, is the largest voluntary, membership-driven organization of businesses in Randolph County. The Chamber is recognized for its focus on small business growth and entrepreneurship.  Programs are designed each year by the professional staff and Board of Directors that provide valuable resources and markets to the businesses in the area.

With an annual budget of $650,000 and internal team of three full-time positions, the Chamber's leadership has developed the groundwork to move to a new level of service delivery in terms of advocacy, transportation, and workforce development. The business organization works continuously to develop relationships with local, state, and federal elected and appointed leaders. 

Additional programs the Chamber is recognized for include Student Leadership Information For Tomorrow (LIFT), Leadership Randolph, Business After Hours, Randolph Professionals Network, Business Before Hours, and Let's Do Lunch.

The President and CEO Position. The President and Chief Executive Officer is responsible for all aspects of operations for the Asheboro Randolph Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Chamber Foundation, and reports directly to the Board of Directors through an annually elected Chair. The professional provides vision, strategic direction, and management for the programs and personnel of the organization. The leader demonstrates expertise in strategic planning, program and personnel management, member sales and services, resource development, nonprofit governance and operations, financial management, marketing, public policy and advocacy, and community, economic, and workforce development.

The President serves as the lead spokesperson for the Chamber and strategic initiatives, representing the organization's interests to the media, elected officials, and all community and organizational stakeholders. Furthermore, the President is charged with the proficient management of all resources at the Chamber's disposal, including both team members and volunteer efforts. These resources must be expertly deployed to align with the mission of the organization and to advance the growth and prosperity of the Chamber and community.  The professional is recognized as a dynamic leader with high integrity. Key skill sets required include the ability to manage and support current programs; develop new initiatives and collaborative partnerships; and to lead, engage, and commit to include the best diversity, equity, and inclusion practices for the region.

Key Position Requirements.

  • Bachelor's degree in the area(s) of association management, economic development, community development, public relations, public administration, business and/or marketing from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of executive-level leadership and personnel management experience with a Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit organization, or business of similar scale and complexity, with demonstrated working knowledge of business principles, public policy, community development, economic development, workforce development, event planning, and program development.
  • A proven tenure in implementing a visionary strategic plan in collaboration with a diverse and influential body of organizational stakeholders.
  • An innovative, creative, and strategic thinker who has experience in developing relevant initiatives and goals to enhance a region's tax base and a track record of proven results.
