Overview

Atrium Health and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine are seeking a Pulmonary & Critical Care Trialist. This leader will have clinical training in pulmonary and critical care medicine, plus strong credentials in executing clinical trials for the position of Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care Trials - Greater Charlotte Market (GCM). Clinical and research activities will take place in the Charlotte Market.

This position will benefit from Atrium Health's close partnership with Wake Forest University School of Medicine, which will open a new Medical School campus in Charlotte in 2024. With the integration of Atrium Health and Advocate Aurora Health, the newly combined entity, Advocate Health, is now the fifth largest not-for-profit health system in the United States. Research across Atrium Health is coordinated by the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Clinical and Translational Science Institute, which operates under a single IRB and contracts office, facilitating clinical trial execution and research integration in multiple markets.

Essential responsibilities and functions:

  • Develop a critical care and pulmonary trials program in the Charlotte Market, in partnership with the existing acute and critical care trials program at Wake Forest Baptist in the Winston-Salem Market, which embraces the Academic Learning Healthcare System model.
  • Provide pulmonary and critical care clinical services to patients in the Charlotte Market.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion in all of its dimensions and nurture a supportive environment that enables faculty and staff to accomplish their professional goals.

Desired characteristics of the incumbent for this position:

  • National or emerging national academic stature and track record of scholarship and success in conducting acute and critical care clinical or healthcare delivery trials and in obtaining external grant funding.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • Meeting the criteria for an appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level.
  • Alignment with institutional research focus areas of Aging and Mobility; Alzheimer's Disease; Neurosciences; Implementation Science and Health Services Research; Health Disparities and Health Equity; and Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes and Metabolism could extend the impact of the candidate's enterprise research impact.
