What's a career like at BAE Systems? Remarkable. This position reports into the Finance Shared Services (FSS) Payroll Director. The position manages all activities related to the Payroll tax team, including coordinating with 3rd party vendors to prepare Federal, State, and local tax withholding deposits. This position will manage a team of 4 individuals, which comprise the payroll tax team. There are 12 legal entities with over 500 tax profiles.

The position will manage the payroll tax team responsible for auditing, identifying, and resolving tax variances. This position will oversee the payroll account reconciliations and coordinate year-end activities, including employee communications regarding year-end, special processing and managing the non-monopolistic workers compensation payments.

This position will support the collection and reporting of key Payroll/Tax metrics and support any payroll audits as they arise. Coordinates with the payroll team on stock and other special processing needs.

The role will support tax administration including the management of tax notices. The role will coordinate with 3rd party vendors to conduct year-end payroll processing including W-2 and W-2C processing. The role will coordinate with 3rd party vendors to support and process garnishments payments, as well as support and process relocation earnings. Finally, the role is responsible for supporting complex payroll projects (e.g. integrations, reorganizations), and supporting technical upgrades as required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages and Coordinates with 3rd party vendors to prepare Federal, State, and local tax withholdings. Audits, identifies, and resolves tax variances. Reviews funding for tax liability payments and payroll. Managers overall payroll tax administration for 35,000 employees.
  • Coordinates with 3rd party vendors to conduct year-end payroll processes including W-2 and W-2C preparations.
  • Reviews and approves monthly billing to sectors and intercompany settlement statements
  • Completes/reviews the registration of new company FEIN requirements with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for assisting the team investigate resolution of tax notices from federal, state, and local agencies.
  • Supports complex payroll projects and special projects required within the Payroll department, including any support of integrations or reorganizations related to payroll tax.
  • Supports compliance or audit requests as required, both at the state or federal levels as well as with government compliance (DCAA). Performs any control self-assessments to ensure controls are regularly tested and in place for the processes, and are compliant with governmental and internal rules.
  • Performs other related duties, as required.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS Degree with 8+ years of professional Payroll & Tax management experience
  • Experience in payroll required, including payroll accounting and payroll tax for large corporations
  • Experience with payroll tax in a multi-state, multi-jurisdiction environment
  • Experience and familiarity enterprise-wide payroll software
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required
  • Strong managerial and coaching skills
  • Strong process and systems skills
  • Able to articulate complex subject matter effectively
  • Able to anticipate problems and respond accordingly
  • Excellent entrepreneurial skills and ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Demonstrated experience performing accounting services as a defense/government contractor in a regulated and compliant organization, specifically DCAA, is strongly preferred
  • Experience processing payroll and payroll tax across multiple legal entities
  • Experience with implementations of payroll services and or payroll process changes
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Payroll/Oracle Payroll
  • Payroll certifications (including FPC or CPP) preferred
  • Experience in a shared service preferred


Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $89820 - $152730

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
