Position Summary  

Under general supervision, the Digital Learning Technologist collaborates and consults with educators to enhance digital pedagogy and improve student learning in all instructional modes (conventional, hybrid, and online), with specific emphasis on the use of digital tools and Universal Design for Learning principles (i.e., multiple means of representation, multiple means of action and expression, and multiple means of engagement) in support of student success. This position will work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to recommend educational technology tools to further student learning and develop data collection methods and analysis to support student success, as well as to develop online or hybrid courses.

The Digital Learning Technologist is responsible for researching, implementing, training, and administering established and new educational technology tools for teaching and learning. This role will assist faculty to explore innovative and effective ways to enhance the teaching and learning environment. The ideal candidate will be passionate about higher education and technology, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. The Digital Learning Technologist will work collaboratively with the Instructional Design team, the faculty, Program Chairs, and institutional technology teams. This position reports to the Associate Director of Instructional Design.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $67,669/year - $94,737/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Typically, new hire starts no higher than $72,000/year based on Bellevue College Exempt salary schedule.

The employee is scheduled to work 40 hours per workweek. This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, which means that you are not eligible for overtime pay.

About the Department  

Interactive eLearning supports student academic success through faculty instructional design consultations based on evidence-based course standards, learning management system administration, creative application of technology, engaging and immersive online experiences, digital equipment management, and student and faculty training.

Essential Functions  

Online Course Development

  • Support educators by sharing research findings on best practices of instructional technology use to enhance student learning in all instructional modes (flipped, hybrid, online), with an emphasis on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and accessible instructional materials and practices.
  • Online Excellence Teaching Academy (OETA) - Assist with the Online Excellence Teaching Academy Project. Manage and promote a series of workshops created to onboard faculty to teach online and hybrid classes using Canvas.
  • Evaluate requests for integrations and tool usage and maintain records of tool usage.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of current technological tools for online and hybrid education (web conferencing, lecture capture, cloud-based applications, simulations, and VR/XR applications).
  • Create media and multimedia, in partnership with subject matter experts, for use in various instructional formats.
  • Create and maintain training videos and documentation for instructional technologies supported within the College.
  • Deliver formal/informal, individual/group consultations and workshops regarding the effective use of technology in online and hybrid teaching and learning.
  • Provide technical support of instructional technology tools and guidance consistent with accessibility standards.
  • Participate in the testing of tools and integrations.
  • Build relationships with contracted vendors.

Technology Consultation & Support

  • Provide end-user training, consultations, and technical support on the use of various instructional technologies, including lecture capture, web conferencing, learning management system, etc.
  • Provide consultation with faculty to recommend applicable media, multimedia equipment use, design, and production techniques for instruction, materials, and presentation.
  • Conduct train-the-trainer workshops for internal teams on the use of instructional technologies within the College.
  • Facilitate one-on-one instruction and group workshops, either on request or as part of campus-wide special events.

System Support Management

  • Assist eLearning with data gathering and the assessment of online learning.
  • Track OETA registrations and completions and communicate completion data to the Academic Affairs Office.
  • Use Canvas data to explore student success metrics for online and hybrid courses.
  • Plan projects for incoming design requests using tools like Planner or Smart sheet.

Communication

  • Assist with department email.
  • Gather information for the eLearning newsletter.
  • Update and maintain the web page for faculty eLearning information.

Other

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's Degree in any field. Any combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Certification in Instructional Design or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years¿ experience facilitating the use of technology in a diverse adult educational or training environment. 
  • Minimum two (2) years¿ experience applying Universal Design for Learning (UDL) pedagogy's, educational accessibility legal requirements, and current theories, models and exemplary
  • practices in online higher education.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience using tools for instructional design projects in a working environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year large-scale project management experience employing tools like Microsoft Planner, Zoho, or Smart sheet.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with a learning management system in any role. 
  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with diverse colleagues in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
  • Excellent motivational and interpersonal skills, flexibility, outstanding customer service attitude, and attention to detail. 
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
  • Proficient with Zoom and with Microsoft Office and Office365 products, including Teams and Excel.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Experience using Articulate Rise or Story line in a work environment.
  • Experience working with Canvas.
  • Quality Matters (QM) Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) certificate. 
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience managing a digital badging system.

Additional materials:

  • Applicants will be expected to share a portfolio with training/design samples.
