Position Summary  

This position is in the Information Technology Services (ITS) Division. The System Administrator - Journey reports to the Director of Infrastructure and works collaboratively with members of the Information Technology Services Division, internal members within their own department, and the college community as a whole.

This position is responsible and/or involved with recommending, designing, implementing, supporting, managing and troubleshooting enterprise-level applications and services as well as the underlying technologies that may include database, storage systems, internet services and authentication technologies. These information systems improve the college's technology services while aligning with the college's mission and goals.

This position is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the network, servers, and services. As an on-site final tier escalation point, it is expected that this position be available to assist all other technical workers and solve all problems assigned – through research, discussion and vendor support, if necessary.

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule  

Position Salary Range: $87,432/year - $117,588/year

The salary information shown above is a general guideline only. The salary will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and related experience, as well as market and business considerations. Individuals newly hired to Classified position are placed in a salary range based on the WPEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

About the Department  

The Information Technology Services (ITS) division is comprised of six departmental teams: The Office of the Vice President, Digital Media Services, Infrastructure, Integration, Technical Support Services, and Office of IT Business Operation. 

ITS supports all campus computing – both academic and administrative. It manages networking, servers, performance and quality of all college websites, the web portal, software and application development, as well as data and administrative system support. ITS provides in-person workshops and training to faculty and staff and offers an array of video production services live streaming for campus events, videotaping and post-production, as well as producing original programming to support college activities.

The Infrastructure Team provides core enterprise services and IT infrastructure for the college's information systems. The team ensures the college's digital information, technology services and enterprise systems are strategically planned, implemented, tested and supported to meet the technology needs of students, staff, and faculty.

Essential Functions  
  • Supports, maintains, and enhances existing, high risk and impact, mission critical servers/services. Analyzes and resolves very complex problems such as multiple product problems, dump analysis, or major conflicts caused by a new hardware or software version.
  • Resolve incidents and conduct root cause analysis of critical outages.
  • Monitor servers and services for health and upcoming maintenance and industry news for critical information.
  • Utilizes emerging and evolving technologies to address enterprise, operational, and tactical requirements in alignment with current and future business needs.
  • Efficiently schedule and prioritize multiple projects and tasks concurrently, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Write documentation, either independently or collaboratively.
  • Offer expert enterprise architecture guidance, support, and coordination to both customers and IT project teams.
  • Investigate and repair network, server and/or enterprise application problems or outages as a member of the Infrastructure Team (final escalation point for all network and server issues). Issues often involve major, enterprise-wide systems, such as Internet access, e-mail, Active Directory, DNS, campus-wide network infrastructure etc.
Minimum Qualifications  
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (or similar) or four years' experience as a system administrator or network administrator.
  • Ability to create, manage, and work with multiple system platforms that operate within the same environment.
  • Proficiency with managing network systems and devices such as Juniper, Dell, HP, Fortigate (ex: routers, switches, firewalls, and access points
Preferred Qualifications  
  • Able to identify opportunities to improve enterprise-level systems to support business processes and utilize emerging technologies.
  • Able to apply emerging and evolving technologies to current and future business needs at the enterprise, operational and tactical levels.
  • Knowledge of key regulatory requirements and guidance relating to enterprise architecture.
