Reporting Location: Remote with Travel up to 40%

Sr. Transportation Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations relating to the handling of inbound and outbound domestic product along with an ever-growing staff. To achieve this, you will need to support all transportation and planning process, stay abreast of the changing transportation environment, and ensure that team members have the tools and resources to achieve assigned tasks with the customer's needs always being first.

The position of Sr. Transportation Manager (Domestic Operations) will report to and support our Sr. Director of Transportation and will assist in managing the Transportation program to continuously improve efficiencies in the most cost-effective manner. This position will also own the companies developing front haul / back haul program.

The Sr. Transportation Manager is required to demonstrate leadership skills in the direction of logistics and transportation. The position is responsible for maintaining and directing the company's transportation and distribution system, and 3PL management.

Salary: $125,000 - $145,000 annual salary

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the replenishment/forecasting department, merchandising, and the vendor community to ensure visible, smooth, cost-effective transportation flow, and as needed exception management resolution.
  • Provide regular updates, reporting/KPIs, and key communication points regarding supply flow and exceptions to internal/external customers in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
  • Support the annual RFQ and Freight negotiations to support final awarding of business lanes.
  • Ensure internal processes are documented and team is cross trained on day-to-day operations.
  • Support Departmental Projects and Initiatives as required.
  • Be the champion for the implementation of BlueJay transportation management system across all shipment types.
  • Be the key resource and bridge between IT department and BlueJay system integration process.
  • Ensure all staff and vendors are properly trained in the operation of the new BlueJay system.
  • Evaluate existing transportation framework to understand how we can improve and build upon the existing infrastructure.
  • Develop and grown the back haul and front haul program to include TMS integration and AR integration.
  • Own the contract negotiation for new broker partners and carrier partners during the on boarding process.
  • Ensures handling of required documents according to regulations and internal procedures.
  •  Follows-up shipment status in the department, identifies incidents and ensures resolution of incident.
  •  Continuously monitors supplier performance and develops improvement plan when required.
  • Working knowledge for negotiating, implementing, and managing company transportation and distribution network with outside vendors by conducting analysis, competitive bid review, and vendor selections
  •  Navigate 3PL transportation services.
  • Determine the correct shipping methods, routes to ensure optimization to maximize lowest cost and highest efficiency while servicing all channel in the Supply Chain
  • Understand, track, forecast, and optimize key cost drivers for the supply chain.
  • Works closely with Delivery Operations, Store Operations and Distribution Centers regarding growth, operational efficiencies, and problem resolution.
  • Evaluate existing transportation framework to understand how we can improve and build upon the existing infrastructure.
  • Implement methods improvement; plan, organize, and administer departmental systems, procedures, operating budgets, workforce, and controls for a cost-effective operation.
  • Develop recommendations to the organization to drive efficiency, lower costs, and improve the overall performance of the organization.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative long-term relationships with carriers and business partners (brokers/freight forwarders/terminals) to foster continuous improvement.
  • Continuously monitors supplier performance and develops improvement plan when required.
  • Monitoring freight invoices working with accounting to ensure proper invoicing and payments.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coordinate Transportation staff.
  • Work with the senior director to establish work priorities in line with overall department and corporate objectives.
  • Collaborating with the director and freight partners on root cause analysis and continuous improvements.
  • Collaborating with the senior director, Suppliers and Purchasing and Receiving team to ensure most economical and timely outbound freight shipments.
  • Work closely with distribution centers, depots and store locations to ensure empty trailers are available to support the new back haul and front haul program.
  • Develops and implements SOPs.
  • Provides quarterly business updates to the SVP of DC and Transportation Operations

Required Qualifications:

  • +15 years of Freight Industry, Logistics or Supply Chain Experience
  • +5 years People management skills
  • BlueJay or other relative TMS implementation and integration experience.
  • Capability in dealing with relative departments (3PL) in solving ad hoc problems.
  • Experience in working with forwarders, customer brokers, shipping lines, drayage carriers, inter-modal carriers.
  • Experience in working with and managing 3PL as per managed expectations.
  • Productivity (cost saving) project handling
  • Experience with cost/budget control
  • Contract negotiation – Assets, 3PL (Truckload),
  • Asset management
  • Backhaul and fronthaul Operations
  • Proven extensive knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of the geographical areas of operation
  • Must be able to provide effective leadership and motivation to the organization while building a teamwork environment.
  • Leads the team by attracting, coaching, and developing in areas of operations, safety, and maintenance.
  • Independent / Initiative-taker with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Successful Project Management experience in the Freight, Supply chain and Logistics arena
  • Evidence of Freight Network Management skills
  • Previous work experience with a freight forwarding computer system.
  • Ability to Prioritize workload across competing demands.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in operations management, Supply Chain, or Similar Field and 10+ years of transportation, organization experience in wholesale and or retail environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
  • Advanced TMS skills.
  • Accounts Receivable knowledge.
  • Experience in SAP is desired (WMS)
  • Experience working in a team environment, exhibiting effective communication skills and the adaptability required to cope within a global change environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with team members, suppliers,
  • Strong planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent computer, data analysis, and critical thinking skills are essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Customs and import process are essential.
