Education: Associate or Bachelors Degree from an ARRT approved/accredited program in Radiologic Technology

Certificates/License: Valid, current State of Iowa Permit to Practice and ARRT registration in Radiologic Technology and Mammography. Current BCLS certification.

Experience: Minimum one year of mammography experience required. Hospital based experience preferred.  Willing to train the right candidate.

Position Summary: Operates mammographic and radiologic equipment to produce mammograms and radiographs (x-rays) of the human body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the Radiologist. Explains procedure to patient to reduce anxiety and obtain patient cooperation. Monitors accessory equipment and assist the physician with fluoroscopic procedures and special radiographic procedures. Perform the described duties in the primary work area and demonstrate competency in Mammography, orthopedic radiology, pediatric radiology, operating room radiology, trauma radiology, GI radiology, out-patient diagnostic radiology, and in-patient diagnostic radiology. In addition to meeting competency requirements for work in Mammography, Radiography and CT must be willing to serve as Lead Mammographer, if needed, and/or super user for various radiology initiatives.

Duties Include but not limited to:

  1. Familiar with MQSA, EQUIP. Assist with mammography accreditation and ACR inspections.

  2. Perform weekly quality assurance on the mammography equipment and radiologist's monitors in the Lead Mammographer's absence.

  3. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to assist in providing care appropriate to the age of the patient served (Neonate to Geriatric) within the department (refer to the Scope of Practice and Staffing guidelines in the department Plan of Care).

  4. Maintain performance in compliance with State and Federal laws, consistent with high standards of business and professional ethics. Follows Policies and Procedures of Hospital and Department.

  5. Practice radiation protection techniques to minimize radiation to patient and staff. Practice good Quality Control. Safely operates mobile x-ray equipment in operating room, emergency room and patient's bedside.

  6. Move x-ray equipment into specified positions and adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.

  7. Assist department in developing new protocols and imaging techniques for use in diagnostic radiology.  Able to assist with clerical duties of the department.  Computer literacy attainable.

  8. Will be required to learn and be proficient in CT.

  9. Match appropriate paperwork for interpretation.  Understand and use the hospital's computer system.  Understand and use PACS system.  Conduct scheduling and coordination of patient flow for work area or shift.

  10. Provide training and education to fellow radiologic technologists.

  11. Provide education and training to affiliated radiologic technology student programs.

  12. Assist with patient transportation as necessary.

  13. Maintain effective communication with all levels of supervision and staff.

  14. Participate in staff meetings and in-services as required.  Must be willing and able to take extra shifts as needed which may include night, holidays, and weekends.  Will work assigned holidays.
