Summary:

Coordinates the technical functions and activities in one or more divisions or sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Provides laboratory services to meet the needs of patients, ensuring services are performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Consults with medical staff and other healthcare providers on matters relating to laboratory services. Responsible for the direct oversight of daily operations in the lab including staffing, procedures, policies, and quality improvement. Serves as the Laboratory Safety Officer.

Responsibilities:

• Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
• Under the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor, manages the Performance Improvement/QA functions of the Laboratory and is responsible for the enhancement of all aspects of Laboratory Services through ongoing monitoring and application of quality improvement principles, concepts, and technologies.
• Accountable and responsible for the overall design, leadership, coordination, and integration of quality/performance measurement, improvement utilization, initiatives, and outcomes.
• Plans, participates, and implements PI/QA activities and the provision of all associated educational activities.
• Responsible for department compliance with accreditation agencies' standards and regulations (CAP, AABB, FDA, JCAHO) and ensuring laboratory accreditation.
• Oversees and maintains department policies and procedures to comply with requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
• Responsible for the establishment and ongoing monitoring of PI indicators and thresholds, outcomes monitoring, and data analyses.
• Investigates all risk management, patient/customer, and physician satisfaction issues and outcome resolution; works in collaboration with Risk Management, Quality Management, and/or other involved or associated parties to effect positive resolution and initiates necessary action at the department level.
• Participates in accredited performance improvement programs for both clinical and pathology laboratory services, all such data collection, data input, and result analysis of benchmark, trend, longitudinal, and/or focus studies, including laboratory management operational expenses performance improvement programs.
• Performs all automated and manual testing on patients and quality control materials in the Hematology/Coagulation, Chemistry Section & Urinalysis, Microbiology/Serology, and Blood Bank Section, as needed.
• Assists with the Implementation of new equipment and procedures in a timely manner.
• Assist with the completion of all required validation studies.
• Ensures all equipment is maintained as scheduled.
• Ensures equipment maintenance documentation.
• Completes annual competency assessment successfully and by assigned date.

Requirements:

A. Education/Skills

· Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or equivalent degree required

B. Experience

· 3-5 years as a Medical Technologist, MLS, CLS, or Equivalent required

· 2-3 years of Supervisory or Managerial experience required

· 10 years or greater as a Medical Technologist, MLS, CLS or Equivalent preferred

· Experience with risk management issues preferred

· Knowledge of all quality measurement tools and applications, including but not limited to performance improvement processes of CQI, TQM, Six Sigma for healthcare organizations and/or the ISO Quality Management System preferred

· Body of knowledge to include statistical analysis and associated computer applications and programs preferred

C. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

· Registered as MT(ASCP) or MLS(ASCP) or CLS(AMT) or equivalent is required

· Licensure as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) if required by State
