Description

Job Summary: Manages the Merchandise Department in a Business Unit; directs merchandising plans and operational processes to achieve financial objectives. Utilizes local sales, research, and current trend analytics to develop strategy for categories and optimize product assortments as required by the Business Unit. Supervises the warehousing and distribution of most products and services; responsibilities include the implementation and innovation of financial services and the management of sports marketing and local media advertising. Increases gross profit by selecting suppliers, evaluating new products/services, negotiating pricing, planning local marketing, and merchandising strategies. Supervises the merchandise staff, which implements the store marketing and merchandising plan, following the National and Business Area level directives. The Field Merchandising Director should foster an environment that welcomes change and that promotes high levels of ingenuity and creative thinking, risk tolerance, and collaboration; grow revenue and margin for all categories.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees and supports strategic decisions from the National and Business Area level, and local.

  • Oversees operational aspects of merchandise execution.

  • Expand brand presence in each market by developing an annual marketing plan, utilizing local opportunities for billboards, radio, and other media.

  • Improves results of under-performing assets by developing imaginative and complex methods, procedures, products, systems and/or innovative programs.

  • Analyzes financial results; recommends promotions and category changes to meet/exceed established goals, aligning with the National and Business Area Merchandising functions.

  • Anticipates and reacts to competitive activity within each market by reviewing, analyzing, and providing recommendations aligning with the National and Business Area Merchandising functions.

  • Ensures implementation of marketing/merchandising plans and initiatives by communicating with Retail Operations Directors and District Managers.

  • Maximizes marketing/merchandising and profit opportunities by visiting local markets to identify and implement best practices throughout the Business Unit and shares results company-wide, following the directives of the National and Business Area levels.

  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Allocates program costs by preparing operational and risk reports for analyses.

  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting and orienting employees. Maintains staff job results by training coaching, counseling and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reading professional publications, establishing personal networks; or participating in professional societies.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing determined Financial and Key Result Area targets pursuant to Company Plan guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field preferred. Other combinations of job-related experience and education that meet the requirements may be substituted.

  • Ten years of experience or more preferred; including a minimum of seven years of management responsibility.

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • May require up to 50% travel.

  • Valid driver's license required.
