CONSUMER AND RESIDENTIAL CREDIT RISK OFFICER

 

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? The SVP of Consumer and Residential Credit Risk will support the Chief Credit Officer in managing, directing, and controlling the lending activities of the Bank in the areas of portfolio management, underwriting, and loan workout activities, and own the regulatory change management and remediation functions of 2LOD Credit Risk. This position will assist the Chief Credit Officer in leading and developing a team of Credit Administrators, Credit Portfolio Risk, Credit Portfolio Management, Credit Policy, Reporting and Division Credit Managers with a heavy emphasis on work flow processes to effectively manage the credit pipeline within the framework of prudent lending and risk management practices. This position will also work to align the governance of credit risk with the expectations of Heightened Standards, and focus on effective risk identification, measurement, monitoring, and reporting. The SVP of Consumer and Residential Credit Risk will have delegated credit approval authority and serve on the designated committee(s) delegated to them by the Bank's Chief Credit Officer along with other tasks as needed.

 

What you will do
  • Lead the team directly responsible with ensuring that CNB operates within Bank's risk appetite, policies, and procedures in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provide technical expertise and make recommendations regarding the Bank's Credit Policy and Credit & Portfolio Management Policy.
  • Manage and provide tactical decisioning and strategic direction for regulatory transformation and remediation
  • Drive process efficiencies through technology, product and service innovations using data to formulate effective credit risk management strategies for effective portfolio management
  • Review and approve or decline credits within delegated authority limits and make recommendations related to credits that require additional approval authority.
  • Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate credit risk ratings and impairment analyses.
  • Develop/enhance market analysis data that is used to identify and forecast market trends and support consumer and residential lending initiatives.
  • Proactively identify risks and vulnerabilities across lending business lines to design timely and accurate controls for sustainable credit risk management best practices.
  • Partner with Community Lending Program managers to effectively administer, review, and challenge program requirements and performance to enhance CRA performance and increase visibility through ongoing initiatives for community development and financial literacy.
  • Partner across business lines within the organization and enterprise including Compliance, Special Assets, Accounting, IT, and the GRC to ensure risk taking activities and strategies are consistent and aligned with overall Board level risk appetite statements and within operational capabilities.
  • Lead the review and challenge of 1st LOD credit strategies, new initiatives and new products/services
  • Guide, Coach, and mentor direct and indirect reports. Provide learning opportunities to expand technical expertise and regulatory awareness. Offer meaningful feedback and create ownership of lending objectives at the individual level.
  • Maintain/develop a set of holistic and detailed performance measurements to ensure 1LOD partners and other lines of business and departments are meeting enterprise and regulatory expectations.
  • Responsible for supporting/providing strategic oversight and guidance for the coordination with the examiners, in “Asset Quality” related examination data, document requests and information that is needed.
  • Maintains, updates, and recommends changes to the Bank's loan policy as it pertains, but is not limited to, underwriting criteria, loan authorities, structure requirements, pricing guidelines, collections, and charge-offs. Periodically reviews and reevaluates the adequacy and effectiveness of established policies and procedures.
  • Manage a team of multiple Credit Administrators
  • Work in a horizontal fashion to support or own, as the case may be, GRC Workstream and Issues Management processes and remediation related to Credit Risk.
  • Present to Senior Management, Senior Management Committees and Board or Board Committees

Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 7 years of credit risk management experience in wholesale, consumer, and residential lending.
  • Minimum of 5 years of management-level credit experience including adjudication, portfolio management, concentrations risk management, and regulatory transformation.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience closely engaging and utilizing regulatory expectations to frame the appropriateness of risk management practices for the size, complexity, and risk profile of the Bank.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Master's degree/Finance MBA preferred
  • Credit expertise is required for consumer and residential lending. SBA lending knowledge is desired. Additional expertise in wholesale and commercial lending preferred.
  • Must have extensive background in regulatory awareness, transformation, and remediation.
  • Knowledge of specialist lending activities that may include: entertainment lending, private banking, telecommunication and media, technology, mortgage warehousing, equipment leasing and other.
  • An interpersonal style which enables the executive to effectively interface with senior management including the President, City National Bank, Board of Directors, clients, other colleagues, and regulators.
  • The ability to attract, build and develop a talented and creative team with sufficient knowledge, skills, experience and positive work habits to drive successful delivery of the company's credit strategies. Someone who effectively partners with key constituents and constituencies and is recognized for being a team player and collaborative.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, loan structuring, and problem credit resolution.
  • Experience in asset recovery, problem loan workouts, and regulatory transformation.
  • Experience in credit risk rating, portfolio monitoring, and expectations outlined in the Rating Credit Risk handbook issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
  • This position must be personable and diplomatic, possess understanding of others and be dedicated to supporting the communities in which City National operates.
Compensation Starting base salary: $175,745 - $326,377 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
