GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of an employee of a higher classification, performs professional work in instructing preschool -aged children in a preschool program. Work involves teaching preschool-aged children basic pre-elementary subjects. Work includes planning, organizing, and supervising classroom activities for the social, emotional, intellectual, and psychologofal growth preschool-aged children. Instruction is individual or in groups and is adapted to the needs, interests, anilhd. Works of the c is reviewed through conferences and review of lesson plans. Performs other work as requested. Note: Most employees within this classification are paid an hourly rate and work ten (10) months or less a year.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree in child development or early childhood education.

SUBSTITUTIONS
Associate's degree in any field or a current -Parish Teacher Aide with approval from the Office of Head Start (OHS) temporarily waiving the educational requirements for the Teacher or Teacher (9.5 Months) Classifications for up to two years.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS
(Unless otherwise specified below, must possess at the time of appointment and must be maintained current toughout employment in this classification.) None.

OTHER JOB ASPECTS
Employees hired in this class with an associate's degree in any field must obtain a BESE approved Early Childhood Education Ancillary Certification and complete the nine hours in Earl y Childhood Education course work within two years from the initial employment date or the employee will be terminated. Current City -Parish Teacher Aide Employees hired in this class must successfully obtain an Early Childhood Education Associate's degree, which encompasses the completion of nine hours of course work in early childhood education or childhood development within two years from the initial employment date or the employee will be terminated. The probationary period for employees hired in th is classification will end after the employee has completed six (6) months of employment and all educational requirements. Must be able to bend, stoop and lift 50 pounds. This position requires computer software skills.
