Description

Looking for a great place to work? A place where our culture means safety, respect, quality and excellence and putting our customer's interests ahead of our own? Then think City of Edmonton - City Operations.

Edmonton's urban forest represents a significant municipal asset. More than 380,000 publicly owned trees enhance our boulevards and our open space trees. This valuable component of Edmonton's Urban Infrastructure improves our air quality, reduces energy consumption, conserves water resources and beautifies the City. With careful stewardship, these benefits can continue for generations.

As a Landscape Technician on the Project Forestry team, you will work closely with the Urban Forestry team to protect and preserve this valuable resource. You will provide leading-edge input on tree management strategies, and administer the Corporate Tree Management Policy (C456C) and the Public Tree Bylaw 18825 permit requirements. Technicians work closely with stakeholders to ensure tree protection mechanisms are in place when work occurs near a city tree.

What will you do?

  • Collect data in the field, including tree measurements and assessments, required for potential projects that take place around trees
  • Assess tree condition and collect data on City trees in GIS software
  • Reference landscape drawings and maps to determine tree ownership
  • Assist with various projects which may include recommendations and tree evaluations for monetary value
  • Coordinate contractor work to ensure compliance with City standards and agreements while advising and/or resolving any discrepancies in the work
  • Conduct field inspections and assess the progress and completion of contracted tree work
  • Ensure compliance with safety programs
  • Assist with the administration of the Corporate Tree Management Policy (C456C) as outlined in its procedures, and track and report any damages to tree assets
  • Review tree protection plans as they relate to the Public Tree Permit requirement(s) outlined in the Public Tree Bylaw 18825
  • Complete ground disturbance documents and one call requirements as outlined by OH&S
  • Respond to public complaints or inquiries, orally or in writing
  • Other related work as required
