Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Disability Resources Center and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), the CAPS Clinician works in a dynamic and fast-paced environment focused on delivering innovative mental healthcare and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners. The CAPS Clinician promotes student success by delivering short-term mental/behavioral health intervention directly to students through a variety of comprehensive evidence-based psychological and psycho-educational services. The CAPS Clinician remains abreast of and conducts referral to community resources; conducts mental wellness presentation; and serves as a liaison by engaging in CSN institutional activities and serving on college committees.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge of Mental and Behavioral Health prevention/education, as well as Evidenced-based Best Practices (EBP) and interventions

  • Create a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals

  • Provide multiculturally informed direct clinical services, including goal-oriented approaches to initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session therapy, individual counseling, group and relationship counseling, and crisis intervention for a diverse community of CSN students and field practicum students

  • Demonstrate commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging

  • Demonstrate commitment to the principles of anti-oppression, inclusive excellence and diversity through involvement and participation in university and division-wide projects and initiatives

  • Offer specialized training, interest, and/or experience working with one or more diverse populations is strongly preferred; examples include Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) identified students, the LGBTQ+ community, first-generation and/or limited income students, international students, and students who identify as disabled, gender diverse, and on the neurodivergence spectrum

  • Offer clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD

  • Experience independently executing psycho-presentations, programs, and events for a wide audience

  • Utilize both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy

  • Collaborate with providers within an interdisciplinary team approach

  • Remain abreast of Current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) diagnostic criteria for mental and emotional disturbances and wide variety of therapeutic and treatment approaches for persons with mental and emotional problems as well as current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based intervention strategies

  • Provide clinical case management to support connections to appropriate resources and bridge clients to care

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, Family Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Social Work, student development, or a related human services field from an accredited college or university; OR equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 4 years of related professional experience counseling students, i.e., monitoring, assessing; knowledge related to the interaction of triage-help to students (who experience trauma)

  • Experience in working with a diverse student population

  • Experience in data collection

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years of higher education work experience

  • Experience in crisis intervention; implementing peer education initiatives; annual training and programming, i.e., mental health prevention

  • Licensed Clinician

  • Ability to collaborate and be the liaison with external entities on both programmatic and

  • Evidence of continual professional development in the field of concentration

Salary Information

Administrative Faculty D – The starting salary is $75,564

*This position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.
