Job Description

Position Summary 

CSN Libraries is looking for a Part-time Archivist to be based at North Las Vegas Campus. The Part-time Archivist will be a part of the North Las Vegas Campus Library team and will report directly to the Director. Under the guidance of the CSN Libraries Department, the part-time archivist will be responsible for the inauguration of the college's first historical archive collection, the CSN Living History Archive. The position will work with college archival material. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Identify and assess the archival value of various college materials 

  • Organize archival material to include proper sorting, boxing, and labeling 

  • Examine incoming archival material, research, and analyze material to verify origin and the potential historical importance to the college 

  • Create collection guides and other basic finding aids 

  • Develop an archive collection development policy utilizing recognized archival management methods. 

  • Identify proper equipment and/or fixtures needed to properly sustain a college archive collection 

  • Identify best practices for preservation, digitization, and sustainability of an archive collection with college and public access  

  • Retrieve archived material as requested by faculty, staff, and students 

  • Plan and prepare various exbibits/displays featuring college archival collections  

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Art History, Public History and one year of archivist experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience 

  • Experience working with archive collections 

  • Experience processing and scanning archival collections  

  • Excellent organization skills and detail oriented 

  • Previous museum or gallery experience is an asset, but not required 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • High degree of interpersonal skill and demonstrated ability to maintain effective working relationships with members of the college including students, faculty, and staff 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 

  • Knowledge of document preservation methods and techniques 

  • Knowledge of electronic archiving processes and systems 

  • Ability to research archival materials, secondary sources, records, and documents 

 

Additional Physical Requirements Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining a physical condition necessary for standing and walking; frequent lifting and carrying objects of light weight (5-10 lbs.); occasional lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (11-20 lbs.); frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing; frequent pushing of loaded, wheeled carts of very heavy weight (100-150 lbs.); minimal dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body in the operation of office equipment; utilizing a keyboard, and sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Tasks require sound perception, color perception, visual perception and oral communication ability. 

 

 

Pay:

$27.50/hour  / 10 hrs. per week for semesters Spring/Summer 2024
