Job Description

The Provider will interpret in American Sign Language for Deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, and community members attending institution functions in a broad spectrum of assignments. These can be but are not limited to credit courses, workforce courses, student engagement activities, and community events sponsored by CSN.

  

Responsibilities include

  • Requires the provider to effectively interpret or translate spoken language into manual sign language. 

  • Effectively interpret from American Sign Language into spoken English Language.

  • Effectively communicate in written and spoken English.

  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in a variety of educational interpreting situations based on the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf's (RID) Code of Conduct and institutional policy and procedures.

  • Function as an active team member in the interpreting process when required.

  • Research terminology and information used to interpret/transliterate in classroom situations and college-related activities.

  • Convey material effectively, accurately, and impartially, through the use of any necessary specialized vocabulary.

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

  • Complete all documentation required for verification of services in a timely manner. 

  • Exhibit professional conduct and skilled contribution in the workplace.

  • Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the institution at all times.

  • Assume responsibility for continued professional development and maintain certificate and licensure at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent

  • Current licensure from the State of Nevada or the ability to license within 30 days

  • National certification:  EIPA 4.0 or NAD-RID certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting in Post-Secondary Education

  • College degree or coursework

Starting Salary

  • EIPA 4.0 or above: $35.00 - $51.00
  • RID, NIC and/or NAD: $41.00 - $62.00
