Job Description

*This is a grant-funded non-tenure track position that ends in June 2025.

The Temporary Instructor, CIT Networking provides instruction in routing-switching, Microsoft client-server, Linux, and virtualization. We are seeking a temporary instructor to augment our cybersecurity, Linux, and Microsoft teaching pool. We are particularly interested in candidates that can teach entry-level networking, cybersecurity, Linux, and Microsoft courses. This individual will be primarily responsible for teaching courses in a subject matter pertaining to information technology infrastructure and is expected to be actively involved in department leadership.

Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching assignments will primarily be courses that prepare students for certification in Linux, Microsoft, and VMWare.

  • Teaching assignments may also include entry-level courses in computers, cybersecurity, and networking.

  • Assigned courses, days, times, and/or locations may vary from semester to semester.

  • Assignments may be any combination of classroom and online modes.

  • Assignments may be located on any combination of CSN's several campuses.

  • Assignments may be any combination of morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

  • Assignments may be any combination of any days of the week including weekends.

  • Assignments may be any combination of courses for which the instructor is qualified.

Leadership may include, but not be limited to, any of the following:

  • Leader and/or membership in department and college-wide committees.

  • Oversee course scheduling and teaching in one or more major subject areas.

  • Oversee specialty lab areas and classrooms for one or more major subject areas.

  • Collaborate with other CIT faculty in developing courses and selecting textbooks.

  • Primary point-of-contact for specialty classroom at any of CSN's major campuses.

  • Program management for one or more degrees and/or certificates.

Qualities of a Successful Candidate:

  • Commitment to underprepared and underrepresented student populations.

  • Ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.

  • Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge of the Computing and Information Technology discipline.

  • A commitment to establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with students, colleagues, leadership, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Experience using technology as an instructional aid where appropriate to enhance student learning.

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to maintain an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, online teaching, and multiple campus teaching assignments that may vary by semester. Teaching ground classes at a local campus location is mandatory.

  • Understanding the role of community college faculty in promoting equity, equality, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Technology or other related business technology or engineering degree OR Bachelor's degree in any field plus: AAS Information Technology or similar degree or industry experience OR Advanced IT technical certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate, Microsoft Associate level certification OR AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science or related technology, engineering, or business degree. 

  • 5 years of teaching experience in higher education or K-12.

  • Technology-related certifications such as AWS, Microsoft, Azure, CompTIA Network+, A+, Security+ Cisco certifications earned in the past 5 years.

  • Experience working with a diverse/multicultural student body and/or workforce.

  • Experience in System Administration, and in particular cloud administration.

  • Experience using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).

  • Experience with online quality teaching standards.

  • Experience networking with IT industry professionals to maintain a network of employers for students to connect with for advice, internships, and jobs.

  • Experience writing grants or obtaining funding for programs aimed to improve student learning outcomes and engagement.

  • Ability to provide students with an effective and engaging instructional experience to increase student motivation and retention in the class and program.

Starting Salary Range:

*Position is contingent upon ongoing and available funding.

Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full-time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master's degree the salary range would be $46,691 to $58,364 annually. The entire salary range is up to $71,723 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years' experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes. *
