The incumbent will be a very seasoned technologist AND have the executive skills to lead others, communicate with exceptional clarity, and develop culture. While the role has no direct staff, it is a member of the leadership team. The role is equal parts technical and employee organizational. CVS Mail Dispensing supports 2 mega-pharmacies and 2 smaller boutique pharmacies. CVS Specialty Dispensing supports 22 pharmacies and increasing by another ~12 more. The core dispensing software is starting a multi-year journey to be entirely rewritten. The new system shall be scalable, cloud-based, CI/CD driven, near zero downtime, configurable, low maintenance, and low latency. There are 10+ integrated software systems for filling, scanning, sorting, packing, inventory, postage, prescription intake, reporting, etc. The incumbent will execute on the activities below: *Architect (20 **% of Time):* Establish and ensure adherence to technical direction, standards, guidelines and methodology for use of specified technologies in the department. Then lead the Technical Advisory council that performs application architectural reviews on department initiatives. Partner with teams and serve as subject matter expert to provide benchmarked solutions to multiple, complex technical projects/initiatives within own area of expertise and organize cross-departmental application architectural solutions. Influence the technical standards and tool selection for the entire the company. Collaborate with Pharmacy Tower Architecture and Enterprise Architecture for integrated infrastructure designs. Vendor technology evaluation and influence. Work with external development firms to evaluate the strength of their platforms as candidates for selection to be added to CVS' environment. Influence the vendors' technical direction to align with CVS'. Architect for backward/forward compatibility and insulation from the short comings of vendor software. *Visionary & Strategist (10**% of Time):* Develop and improve strategic technical direction for functional areas. Maintain the departmental strategic multi-year roadmap and author new additions to it. Align with the Enterprise technology roadmap and extend it to include technology useful to the Mail department. Use quantitative measures to guide architectural priorities. Engage senior technical and business leaders in the development of the technical roadmap then present the results. Keep abreast of technological trends in the industry and determine if useful and/or feasible (i.e. financial impact) and make recommendations to the organization. Build the business case for new tools and drive the funding process. Then lead Proof Of Concept (POC) initiatives to evaluate technologies. When new technologies / techniques are selected, then manage the integration, cultural adoption, and transition. *Standard Setter (10**% of Time):* Lead matrixed application Technical Leads in the development and implementation of application standards through all parts of the Mail & Specialty Dispensing architectural stack. Facilitate experts in a variety of disciplines: .net, Java, SQL, Public & Private Cloud, Rules Engines, Open Source & Proprietary frameworks, etc. to work on how methodologies and standards will be defined. *Technical Program Leader (50**% of Time):* Act as the most senior technical contributor on strategic initiatives. During some periods leading (e.g. defining sensible sets of functionality to be grouped into projects of a multi-year program) and other times supporting (e.g. providing application architectural designs with the Technical Lead on the project). Lead the multi-million dollar, multi-year dispensing pharmacy system creation. Be deeply personally engaged in the success of this program. *Process Development and Adoption (10**% of Time):* Identifies necessary process changes for the department and methodically implements them. Leads the department's DevSecOps maturity journey. Progresses the Unit and QA Test Automation processes in collaboration with the Quality Assurance organization. Selects and implements the tooling for the Continuous Integration & Continuous Deployment pipeline across all technology stacks (i.e. .net, Java, SQL). Surveys other departments, enterprise initiatives, and the industry for best practices for the department to adopt. *This role can sit in multiple CVS locations to include remote. *Required Qualifications* *Experience**: * At least 9+ years of programming and/or demonstrated leadership in application development (SDLC). * 5+ years' experience leading technical aspects of a project effectively. * 5+ years of enterprise scale software design. * Demonstrated experience successfully managing customer requirements or demands. *Knowledge, Skills & Abilities*: * Mastery in one or more technological discipline(s). * Thorough understanding of platforms/applications or software products used by CVS, with advanced knowledge of two (2) or more products. *Preferred Qualifications* *Experience**: * Light Manufacturing / Logistics / Mechanical Automation Technology * Design of low latency multi-site interconnected systems * Internal or external consulting * Roadmap development, presented to SVP/CIO audiences * Project Ownership * Mentorship * Lead a Departmental Application Architecture forum * Design & Coding Standards development * Proof Of Concept with new Platforms, * Business Case Development (e.g. ROI, strategic rationale, etc.), * Integrated Development Environment (IDE) evaluations * Cross Team Adoption of Technology or Processes * Cross Matrixed (indirect/”dotted line”) Management of resources * Implementation of a Department-Wide Application Development Process Change *Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:* * .net, SQL, Java * (multiple frameworks), Angular * Cloud Software (Azure Kubernetes Services, Red Hat OpenShift, Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform) * Pub-Sub frameworks (Kafka) * Pharmacy background * Project Management * DevSecOps *Education* BS in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience required. Masters of Science in Computer Science, Engineering, or related major AND an MBA preferred *Pay Range* The typical pay range for this role is: $140,000.00 - $280,000.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company's equity award program.
