Delta College seeks applications for a per diem Athletic Trainer. The per diem Athletic Trainer will work directly with the full-time Athletic Trainer to provide medical services for student-athletes participating in one of our 7 NJCAA athletic programs: women's soccer, women's volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball and men's golf. Hours and schedule will vary based on the needs of the department. This position is used to assist in weekend coverage of athletic competitions. Services for the per diem Athletic Trainer will consist of athletic training room coverage prior to athletic contests as well as coverage of Friday night and Saturday events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
Administration

  • Embrace and promote the mission of Delta College and lead the Department in accordance with those standards.
  • Oversee the continued development and implementation of the Athletic Department's mission statement and values to foster transformation of the whole person and achieve sustained athletic, academic, and fiscal success.
  • Promote favorable image of the institution at all times. Represent the program and Delta College with integrity, respect, sportsmanship, and professionalism in the community and at sponsored events/contests.
  • Contribute to a positive teamwork environment.

Athletic Training
  • Patient-Centered Care:
    • Provide patient education materials and resources related to the patient's health concerns and intervention options.
    • Develop comprehensive patient care plans integrating the patient's needs, preferences, goals, and values through shared decision-making.
    • Use effective education and communication strategies to promote patient health and wellness.
  • Interprofessional Collaborative Practice:
    • Communicate and collaborate with team physician, maintain appropriate standing orders, and make physician referrals where appropriate.
  • Evidence-Based Practice:
    • Integrate the best available research evidence with clinical experience and patient values and circumstances to inform clinical decision-making and optimize patient outcomes.
    • Perform systematic, evidence-based patient evaluations and assessments to formulate a clinical diagnosis and develop effective patient care plans.
    • Rehabilitate and recondition injuries, illnesses, and general medical conditions with the goal of achieving optimal activity level based on core concepts using the applications of therapeutic exercise, modality devices, and manual therapy techniques.
    • Integrate best practices for the preparation, implementation, and management of immediate and emergency care situations.
  • Health Information Technology and Informatics:
    • Keep up with the latest research/best practice methods by searching, retrieving, and utilizing online and/or internal databases to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient care outcomes.
    • Evaluate, manage, and maintain accurate patient documentation, including the protection and security of personal health information, including the access, handling, and dissemination of patient health records consistent with legal and professional standards.
    • Utilize online sources and internal databases to maintain patient communication and provide patient education and resources related to health concerns.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement:
    • Continually identify and measure the quality of patient care in terms of structure, process, and outcomes.
    • Design and implement health care quality improvement interventions to stimulate process and system-level transformation.
    • Integrate best practices in policy construction and implementation, documentation, and basic business practices to promote optimal patient care and employee well-being.
  • Professionalism:
    • Practice in accordance with applicable local, state, and/or federal rules, requirements, regulations, and/or laws related to the practice of athletic training and adhere to affiliated professional practice standards.
    • Maintain professional certification and state licensing requirements (CPR/AED, CEU's).
    • Adhere to the Delta College Athletics Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

  • Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Eligible for Michigan State Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1 to 3 years' experience
  • Ability to interact effectively with both the athletic department staff and student-athletes.
