-MD/DO; Full-time employee

-Emergency Medicine BC/BE preferred; 2-3 years of Emergency Medicine post residency preferred. Point of Care Ultrasound competency preferred.

-Non-OR Airway Management level 3 compliance required.

-Reports to Emergency Medicine Service Chief. The Charles George (Asheville) VA Medical Center ED Nocturnist provides solo MD/DO coverage from 11P-7A. Veterans Medical Transport provides ALS/BLS transport until 12A M-F.

-Work schedule: Compressed Tour of Duty; 10/11-hour days (9 pm-7/8 am). Some weekends and holidays (major and minor). No telework available; not remote. No night call coverage as an ED Nocturnist.

Malpractice Insurance VA physicians are covered under the Federal Tort Claims Act - 28 U.S.C. § 1346 and 28 U.S.C § 2671. Medical personnel have statutory immunity from "individual" malpractice liability while acting within scope of employment; a VA physician cannot be sued in civil court for a malpractice (tort) claim.
