Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

 Provides expertise in regulatory, reliability and security compliance matters across the organization. Maintains active involvement in the development of new compliance requirements through the standards development process, regulatory committees, and other applicable compliance workgroups. Assures proper implementation and compliance with all regulatory compliance directives. Collaborates with regulatory officials and other utility companies in North American Electrical Reliability Corp (NERC) compliance matters. Span of control: 0; this is an individual contributor job.

Key Accountabilities

•    Provides expert level knowledge of electric regulatory reliability and security compliance activities mandated by the regulatory agencies including, ReliabilityFirst (RF), North American Electrical Reliability Corp. (NERC), and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
•    Ensures policies, procedures, and processes comply with audit and regulatory requirements, including consistency across the organization with the reliability and security requirements
•    Gathers support from management for changes in policies and procedures impacting business units (BUs) and the NERC Compliance Organization (NCO)
•    Supports the internal and external audit preparation and delivery
•    Conducts compliance assessments, reviews, and audits to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and requirements
•    Conducts research and interprets standards and policies to identify and support best practices
•    Serves as expert liaison for company with regulatory agencies for compliance requirements

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

This is a dual-track base requirement job; education and experience requirements can be satisfied through one of the following two options:
•    High school diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience in electrical system operations, cyber-security or information management, inclusive of 5 years of experience in leading projects or teams, OR
•    Bachelor's degree in technical field and 8 years of experience in electrical system operations, cyber-security or information management, inclusive of 3 years of experience in leading projects or teams

Other Qualifications

Preferred
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering (e.g., electrical engineering, engineering technology) or technology (e.g., computer science, information systems management, cyber-security)
• Experience in bulk power or power systems operations, systems engineering, cyber-security or information management operations, inclusive of experience with regulatory compliance standards and electric reliability standards development with regulatory agencies (e.g., FERC, NERC, RF)

 Other Requirements
• Achieves NERC System Operator Certification within 12 months of hire 
• Ability to build relationships and influence parties, including engaging individuals to embrace changing expectations
• Ability to develop and coordinate cross-functional teams and projects to support deliverables
• Ability to provide valuable insights and recommendations, including challenging policies and practices extending beyond the immediate scope of the job
• Flexibility and ability to work with shifting priorities; embraces new/evolving responsibilities
• Initiates new ideas/approaches and challenges prevailing practices with sound alternatives
• Travels up to 50% of work days
