Description

Position/PCN:  Plumber

Position FTE:  1.0FTE

Pay Grade:  14

Starting Wage:  $23.69-$28.89, + 2.00 per hour Certificate of Fitness

Days Per Year:  260

 

Class Summary:  Under limited supervision installs and maintains a variety of plumbing water and waste disposal systems to ensure the continual operation of District facilities.
 
Distinguishing Characteristics: 
 

Duty No. Essential Duties Frequency Band/Grade 1 Performs troubleshooting procedures including basic electrical readings to identify inadequately designed or defective plumbing, water, and waste disposal systems.  Determines the best process for repair/replacement of defective items. (e.g) identifying the necessary parts, materials and tools required). Daily B2 2 Performs maintenance, preventative maintenance, installation and/or repair activities of District plumbing and related equipment.  Constructs and/or redesigns inadequately designed or defective plumbing, water, and waste disposal systems. Daily B2 3 Contacts original equipment vendors on major repairs to identify the most effective and efficient utilization of water and waste disposal systems. Daily A1 4 Initiates work orders and coordinates repairs with Operations and Maintenance personnel. Daily B2 5 Coordinates plumbing work with building custodians and plumbers. Daily B3 6 Prepares narrative reports concerning repairs completed/required and parts/materials used and orders. Daily A1 7 Assigns and monitors on-site job activities of plumbing crews.  Provides work direction and on-the-job training functions. Daily B3 8 May be required to perform additional duties which result from the Operations and Maintenance Department's workload and/or work assigned by the Maintenance Foreman and/or his designee. As Needed C4 9 Designs, installs, and certifies new plumbing systems in the district in accordance with state statutes. Participates in project plan reviews on larger district projects Daily C4  

 
Knowledge:  Previous education, training, work or life experience which provides evidence of the successful completion of the various tasks listed.  Such knowledge may be evidenced by six (6) years of general plumbing (water and waste disposal system) maintenance and repair experience.

Licensing Requirements (position requirements at entry):  Journeyman License (and knowledge of  applicable codes and standards) and valid Alaska drivers license.
 
Physical Requirements:  Medium Work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
